4998.0. "Iconic MAP crash in V1.3" by KETJE::PACCO (Gallia divisa est in partes tres) Tue May 04 1993 12:53
**********************************************************
The mcc_iconic_map crashes (core dump under ULTRIX V4.3)
when
- the domain MAP file contains an entry for a child entity
of a global entity, of which the MCC class does not exist
in the mcc dictionary.
**********************************************************
In fact, after a brand new DECmcc installation V1.3 I ended-up
with having a number of objects in DECdns for which the coresponding
DECmcc class was not available any more in the DECmcc dictionary.
The entities were the ones used at DECmcc V1.2 time.
When I tried to look into an existing domain, the iconic map
suddenly disappeared without saying why, before any icon was
displayed.
Empty message boxes appeared also (I had at least 10 of these):
+--------------------------------+
| POLYCENTER Message: |
+--------------------------------+
+--------------------------------+
| |
| |
| |
| |
+--------------------------------+
Then, after lets say 10 seconds finally the iconic map disappears
without
having said anything about the cause of the problem.
Suspecting the "Unresolved" entities, I deregistered all these, but
with no more success. Only fewer "empty" message boxes was the result.
Finally I deleted the original MAP file of the domain, and suddenly
all icons appeared aligned on the screen.
The structure of the map file V1.2 was the main cause of all
my problems.
It seems that when a subentity of a global entity is known in a MAP
file , of which the class is not known in the DECmcc dictionary,
the iconic map crashes.

| one other quick question...
did you ever edit the map file yourself?
|
4998.2 | Yes, map file was edited several times. | KETJE::PACCO | Gallia divisa est in partes tres | Thu May 13 1993 11:51 | 7 |
| Jill,
Yes, I edited the map file(s) at V1.2 time.
What I edited were the icon filenames, and the TCP/IP name
representation.
Dominique.
