Hello, A customer asked me: If you use notification propagation highest, you do not see on the map, when a entity comes o.k., after a problem. If you use notification propagation latest, when two entities have a problem and become red, the topdomain comes red, too. When one of the two entities becones o.k. again, lets say color back to blue, the topdoamin changes to blue, too. But one of the both entities is still bad. Are there any plans, to select a colorchange (propagation latest, highest) for each domainlevel. Or are there any plans to change the propagation-philosophie? Roland

Hi Roland, >If you use notification propagation highest, you do not see on the map, when a >entity comes o.k., after a problem. Yes, highest actually gives you highest for a specific entity but it also does correlation. Example, if you have two rules fire for an entity (one major and critical) then entity will be critical. If the critical rule clears the entity then becomes major. This scenerio also propogates up thru domains the same way. This function seemed to work quite well the last time I tried this sort of thing in V1.2. >If you use notification propagation latest, when two entities have a problem and >become red, the topdomain comes red, too. When one of the two entities becones >o.k. again, lets say color back to blue, the topdoamin changes to blue, too. But >one of the both entities is still bad. You are right and it is even worse than that. The same applies if two child entities (same global entity) go bad and only one clears. The global entity shows clear even though one of the children is still bad. For this reason, for most applications of the tool, I *never* recommend using LATEST. I'm told there are needs for LATEST and that's why it was developed. >Are there any plans, to select a colorchange (propagation latest, highest) for >each domainlevel. Or are there any plans to change the propagation-philosophie? Engineers will have to answer this one, I am just a simple user. cheers, brad... | |||||
| 4983.2 | need both !! | VNASWS::HONISCH | Guenter Honisch ACT Austria | Fri Apr 30 1993 10:31 | 14 |
I agree to .0
I need latest to show the last status of a entity
i.e. Child entity as a colored line
BUT I need highest in the upper Domain
I could live with a general latest in Domain
highest from lower Domain
Algorithm
A setup per Domain would of course be the best
