Hi , has anyone seen the following problem with the Alarm Mgr on Ultrix: creating and enabling a rule as root works fine but in a normal unprivileged account the program just stops after you click on create/enable. It is no longer possible to use the "cancel" button. The ony way to free the thing up is to kill the background process. cheers, Denis

What happens when you try to simply run MCC from the unprivileged account? Also could you check to see if the rule was created or not. Now the potential problem may be that we attempt to use the tmp directory for getting data back from the FCL process we are communicating to. If your user account doesn't have enough privs to create a new directory there /tmp/username or to write into that directory then you will have a problem. Let me know if this is your problem. (Sorry it is only quickly noted in the documentation and easily missed.)
4946.2 | /tmp is open to all | MFRNW1::DENIS | Tue May 04 1993 06:01 | 11
Hi again, Well I checked the protections on the /tmp directory (which is actually a real directory i.e. it's not a sym link ) and it has full access - drwxrwxrwx , and it belongs to root. I also tried to reproduce the problem on another machine and it was exactly the same. Only the user "root" could create and enable an alarm rule. Trying it with an unprivileged user caused the manager to hang. cheers, Denis

DEnis, I only run the alarm manager from a non privileged account. But I have an idea. A while back you must have modified the MIR files for the alarms FM so that general access is allowed; by default the MIRs are installed such that privs are required. The same modificationis most likely needed for the template MIR files. mcc_system:mcc_alm_mgr*.dat. |
