Greetinggs,
I have a customer who is evaluating V1.3.0 against HP OPENview, and has
some questions.
Q1: Is anything planned to be done about the autoconfiguration utility
? He has a large network made up of IP and DECnet nodes, and the way
that the map is laid out (IP) is disgusting. It is crowded, and the
majority of entities are only partially registered. ie the device name
is .ip.143-216-150-50, not what it is called in the BIND server. In
addition, major work is required to make the map useable, it is just
too cluttered.
Q2: Is there a utility planned that will autodiscover new nodes that are
added to the network ? In his environment a range of addresses are
allocated to various departments and they may add nodes at any time.
Q3: Is there any plans to port MSU to OSF ?
Q4: What are the plans for DECmcc WRT DME ?
After looking at OPENview we are really up against it in a big way.
Hopefully we can at least give him some directions that we are heading
towards that will swing him our way.
Regards,
Reece Boucher

| I would suggest that you contact product management directly.
For network related features (autodiscovery) contact Laura (MOLAR::) Sargent.
Laura may know about MSU as well.
For framework related issues (e.g. DME) contact Gail (Delni::) Ferreira.
