4908.0. "Can't save data from NETpod AM" by CGOOA::DOLMAN (John of all trades - master of none) Mon Apr 19 1993 13:30

I am attempting to collect statistics from a Network Professor POD using the
NETPOD AM T1.1 from Technically Elite. I am running it withe DECmcc BMS V1.3.

I have been unable to use the Historian to do what I want because it refuses to
place 'Statistics' into history. I can understand this because, as I see it,
statistics are something that DECmcc should be recalculating as needed. In
the NETpod AM, however, all of the values that the NETpod passes to MCC are in
a 'Statistics' attribute group (I personally think they should have been
grouped as 'counters').

I tried to use the Exporter to get this data, as in the exporter manual it
states that EVERY attribute of the entity is saved. Indeed it created a
database, and a column existed in the database table for EVERY attribute -
including the statistics groups. Unfortunately, all of the data values for
the 'Statistics' groups were null.

Can anyone share an insite into why time would be so. Obviously the Exporter
expected to save statistics or it would not have created a column in the table
for them. So far, I have been able to view the statistics on the NETpod on an
interactive basis only. All attempts to save any data from it has failed. This
makes the NETpod AM virtually useless.

Can anyone explain to me how 'counters' and 'statistics' are handled differently
by DECmcc? My impression may be all wrong. Should Technically Elite have used
'Counters' instead of 'Statistics'? Does the Exporter sucessfully record
'Statistics' for other entity classes?

You are right that the Historian FM does not record Statistics partitions.

The Exporter FM should write Statistical attributes into the data base.
It works for Node, Node4, SNMP classes.

The Exporter has several limitation which are described in the release
notes. One of them is an attribute data type. If an attribute has a
constructed data type Exporter will not write it in the data base.
As far as I remember the "Historical Data Use" manual has a table with
all data types supported by the Exporter.

Is this is your case? If it's not or you need help to find out an
attribute data type, please, send me mail (TOOK:SHMUYLOVICH).
