4896.1 | LTM is not a bridge | RACER::dave | Ahh, but fortunately, I have the key to escape reality. | Fri Apr 16 1993 10:23 | 11 |
| A LTM Listner is NOT an LANbridge 150. So, you cannot register it
as one. It speaks a different protocol, it does not suport RBMS, and that
is for BRIDGES, and the LTM is not a bridge.
The comment about the FDDI bridges seems to be noise, as they are bridges,
and hence should be able to be registered as such.
What you are asking is akin to saying "I cant register my DECnet node as a
Terminal Server"

4896.3 | LTM Listener *does* speak multiple protocols... | MOLAR::MOLAR::BRIENEN | Network Management Applications! | Tue Apr 20 1993 13:25 | 30 |
| While it's true that a LB100/150 running LTM-Listener code provides most
of its useful data via the LTM protocol, there are other protocols supported
at the same time...
RE: Bridge vs Listener
When a LB100 or LB150 is running LTM Listener code, it "speaks" a
minimal subset of the BRIDGE (RBMS or ELMS) protocol. Just enough,
in fact, to identify it as a LTM Listener (SHOW) and to change it
back to a BRIDGE (SET and RESET).
The Bridge AM / DECmcc is supposed to support REGISTERing the LB150,
whether it's running as an LTM or a BRIDGE. You may have found a bug
in the Bridge AM. You might want to verify that the command:
SHOW BRIDGE <ltm-addr> ALL ATTRIBUTES
still works as well...
RE: LTM vs NCP
LB150s running LTM-Listener code also "speak" the MOP (V3) protocol.
Specifically, it supports Request-ID (i.e. visible as a STATION from
MCC, visible from ETHERNIM), Periodic SYSID (ETHERNIM and $NICONFIG),
and Ethernet V2 Loopback (mcc STATION, ETHERNIM, and NCP LOOP CIRCUIT).
I know of no problems running LTM and DECmcc on the same system.

4896.4 | No faith in SPR system | GADWAL::WOESTEMEYER | Why??...Why not!!! | Wed Apr 21 1993 09:01 | 8 |
| Chris,
Its no wonder that the CSC has no faith in the SPR system. I did an
SPR on this problem back on Feb. 8th. The case number is ICA-45294.
Guess this goes to show why we don't use the SPR system more.

4896.5 | LTM BRIDGE alarm returns ILVINVVAL | CSC32::W_MCGAW | | Fri Apr 23 1993 18:34 | 14 |
| Hi,
I have a customer with a LTM / DECmcc problem that I am not sure if it
relates to this or not but here goes anyway.
He had an alarm rule under BMS V1.2 that would check the LTM bridge for
the BRIDGE FUNCTION characteristic. This used to return LTM which is
what the customer wanted to see. He wanted to make sure no one had
reloaded the bridge with normal bridge software. This same alarm rule
(now under BMS V1.3) returns a ILVINVVAL error. Any ideas /
suggestions?

I need a volunteer!
Could someone with an LTM listener and DECmcc ELM AM V1.3
please execute the following command and reply with the results -
mcc> show bridge 'name' all characteristics
Thanks,

4896.7 | I'll be your volenteer | BWTEAL::WOESTEMEYER | Why??...Why not!!! | Mon Aug 16 1993 15:51 | 28 |
| Bill,
I'll be your volenteer, especially since I SPRed this problems months
ago. Attached is the log you requested. A further piece of
information. If the Iconic map is used to do the show, most of the
attributes come back as --NOT RETURNED--. One of these is ID.
