4851.0. "Alarm rule syntax help needed" by CSC32::W_MCGAW () Thu Apr 08 1993 16:45

    Hi,

    Does anyone know if there is a published sheet on the correct syntax of
    various alarm rule expressions? A customer recently brough to my
    attention that the Alarms and Notification Services Use manual (pages
    A-10 thru A11) show Change_of bridge rules both with and without a
    comma before the variables being checked. He wanted to know which
    format was correct and asked for information (on paper and easy to
    find) on correct rule expression format. This would also include the
    optional qualifiers like AT START, UNTIL etc. and the optional formats
    for specifying these qualifiers.

    Any information would be appreciated!

  Walt,

  The Change_of function should have commas between the arguments:

	(change_of( bridge foo powerup resets, *, * ), at every 00:05:00)

  (the spaces are optional, I just added them for clarity).

  Good suggestion! Can you file a QAR on the Alarms manual?

    The best explanation of AT START, FOR START, AT EVERY 00:00 UNTIL
    00:00, ... is in the PA_FM Use documentation.

    This definitely is something that requires additional work to make it
    more intuitive.

4851.3I will look into how to do a QAR.CX3PT1::SHOTO::W_MCGAWWed Apr 14 1993 13:5410
Hi,

Thanks for the information pointer to the PA_FM Use manual, but the the customers
point on this was you shouldn't have to spend that much time digging through the
whole doc set to find pieces of the syntax.

I will check note 7 for information on QAR's.

Thanks,
Walt
4851.4It's consistent now -- consistently wrongTNPUBS::JONGThe Nostalgia TourMon Jun 07 1993 12:295
    I'm looking at pages A-10 and A-11 of Revision E of the Alarms document
    (for POLYCENTER Frameworks Version 1.3), and it does treat the comma
    consistently. It consistently leaves it out 8^(

    I'll pass this on to the documentation lead writer.
