I have a large customer that logged a call noting they could not get figures for NETWORK UTILIZATION, MULTICAST UTILIZATION and SINGLE DESTINATION UTILIZATION for the FDDI interface on a DECbridge 610. They immediately began asking questions about revision levels of everything from the MCC tool to the microcode revision level on the bridge and it's compatability with the tool to properly display these attributes. A couple of questions were raised... First..Is this capability to be provided in a later release of MCC..? Second..Which counters are used in calculating these figures..? and "Is there a way I can have them calculate these for now using another method." They have just installed an FDDI ring and a number of DECbridge 610s and DECconcentrator 500s and noticed they could not see these when displayed. They seem to think it is a problem and want to know how to get it fixed. From the Iconic Map they select the bridge Icon and show Line 1 Statistics (or when done from the command line) these attributes show as: "ATTRIBUTE NOT AVAILABLE" Could I get clerification on what can be expected for these attributes in the future? The FDDI interface appears to be the only one that exhibits this but I did not check a Concentrator as it was not easily accessable and time seems to be an issue. Thanks in Advance Ralph Blackmer

Hi, The lack of FDDI statistics seems to be a limitation in the hardware, please read note 560.* in MOUSE::FDDI Conference. /Niklas
4837.2 | Hardware does not support this | QUIVER::HAROKOPUS | Wed Apr 07 1993 18:11 | 8
Niklas is correct. Neither DECbridge 5xx, 6xx nor the DECconncentrator 500 support the counters needed to calculate FDDI network utilization statistics. Therefore, ELM will never be able provide these for FDDI. Regards, Bob |
