4829.0. "Help on dispatch error and 5.5-2" by ANOVAX::COMFORT (Cold iron shackle, ball & chain) Tue Apr 06 1993 10:34
Hi -
Can someone please explain the dispatch table and how it works?
My situation is/was as follows:
MCC 1.2.3 on VAXstation 4060, VMS 5.5-0, DETmcc
The systems staff:
Upgraded VMS to 5.5-2.
Installed some super security patch (sorry I don't know what this is,
I don't do systems anymore)
First, the station failed to boot correctly.
They removed the security patch.
Booted system and MCC fails to enable any alarms.
The failure message has to do with can;t find repository.
I take the alarms MIR files to another (test) MCC system. They are
fine.
I test the notification_fm and get a failure to dispatch, ie.
"dispatch local management module file access error during probe"
Try to re-enroll the notification_fm and get repository already exists.
Check the CMA threads stuff and make sure correct library is on.
Check all of the above, same thing.
Call CSC. They suggest re-building the parse table. 5 hours later,
same results.
We are now restoring the system from backups, but I am looking for
information about the dispatch table. Like, could I have re-built it?
Is it likely that the dispatch table this was the problem? Any other
problems w/ 5.5-2?
Thanks,
Dave

Yes. Execute the SYS$STARTUP:MCC_STARTUP_BMS.COM COM procedure with P1 of
"ENROLL". That'll rebuild the dispatch tables.
> Is it likely that the dispatch table this was the problem?
Could have been, but at this point (since you're overwriting the system)
it's impossible to tell.
> Any other problems w/ 5.5-2?
We've been running with 5.5-2 with no probs.
