4789.0. "DECmcc V1.3 crash when adding X11 backdrop" by CGOOA::DOLMAN (John of all trades - master of none) Wed Mar 31 1993 15:25

I have experienced a problem with X11 bitmaps in DECmcc V1.3. The problem is so
solid that I an suprised that I cannot find a previous entry that describes it.
I have recently upgraded from DECmcc BMS V1.2 to V1.3 and have since not been
able to use an X11 backdrop in any domains that I create. If I create a new
domain of use and existing domain, the problem is the same. When I do the ADD
or MODIFY backdrop command and specify the name of any X11 bitmap file, DECmcc
crashes with the following message:

X Toolkit Warning: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
%CMA-F-EXCCOP, exception raised; VMS condition code follows
-SYSTEM-F-ROPRAND, reserved operand fault at PC=002602F8, PSL=03C00000

                                                           0007C382  0007C382
                                                           000771DC  000771DC
                                                           0007A878  0007A878

I haven't a clue what to do about this, and obviously this is working for many
others who use DECmcc V1.3. Does anyone have a suggestion? I am running VMS
V5.5-2 and DECwindows Motif V1.1.

John,

A few things you can do to help us figure this one out, since we have had no
problems with bitmaps.

1. Send me (took::v_gilbert) a copy of your bitmap file as well as your map
   file if you have a map file (after press File Menu Save Map and stored in
   your MCC_MAPS directory.

2. I am going to mail you a bitmap file we have tested with successfully and
   would like you to test with it and tell me your results.

Thanks,
Verna
4789.2Any news??COMBAT::FORSBERGFri Apr 16 1993 08:489

    Do you have any news on this problem? We have the same problem on at
    least two systems (one of them being a customer system) where we're
    running V1.3 (SSB). As I can recall this worked in at least one of the
    field test versions (I'm sorry but I don't remember which one of them).

    Thanks,
    		Annika

The problem has been found and will be included in the next release.

4789.4yes for 1.3.1 and no for 1.3 ??MLNCSC::LASAGNANO!, le scarpe no !!Tue May 18 1993 14:0012
    Verna,

    I have experienced the same problem with X11 bitmaps in 1.3 (SSB).

    I would like to know if there is any workaround/solutions to solve it
    because i have installed this version to the customer because he
    specifically asked for this feature.

    thanks in advance for you attention,

4789.5Works the old way :-)WELLIN::MCCALLUMThu May 20 1993 05:3921

    Well I had a file that crashed if you added it via the IMPM, but if you
    added it the old way ( by editing the domain map file and adding the
    appropriate line ) then it works. You have to create the domain, save
    the map from the IMPM. exit the IMPM. edit the map file , add a line
    like

     background_pixmap sys$login:dup.xbm

    so the file looks something like

     version 3
     domain .London
     background_pixmap sys$login:dup.xbm
     last_x 0.011318 last_y 0.116690

    You can then re-enter the IMPM and add members to the domain.
