4782.0. "NOVELL using SNMP AM???" by IOOSRV::GALVIN (Mic, (319) 363-1508) Tue Mar 30 1993 12:28

    		Novell Access with SNMP AM

    Hi. If a Novell File Server has an INTERNET address and is running IP
    protocol is it possible to manage it using the SNMP AM? I noticed
    there is no corresponding MIB extension for it, so I thought I'd ask.
    If the answer is NOT, does anyone know if there are any plans to do so?

    thanks,

    /Mic

    Mic,

    There is no Novell Mib extentions packaged with DECmcc. However, I am
    working with a customer who got mib definitions from Novell. We are
    having problems returning some of the information from the Novell
    agent, which is why I am working on it. In my opinion it is not an MCC
    problem that we are fighting but a Novell problem. I say this because
    the same attributes that cannot be gotten from the Novell agent are
    availble from a Cisco box. The problem is with MIB II not Novells
    private extentions, at least so far.

4782.2Novell uses a proxy agentANNECY::HAGENMULLEREIC Annecy - dtn 7887.41.99Wed Mar 31 1993 02:516
novell provides a SNMP manager and a proxy agent to manager all their stuff.
By compiling the proxy agent's MIB in DECmcc you should be able to manage
file and print servers, ...
Yet I don't know if the novell's proxy agent implementation has bugs in it.

    Is there a way on the network to have a copy of the Novell private MIB?
    I'am looking for that kind of information for a long time .

    Thank you in advance

    re: .4
    Has anyone got this to compile under DECmcc?
    I get undefined variables in the trap definitions,
    osName and several others

    thanks,
    Mike

	The mib mentioned in .4 defines all the traps that the Novell SNMP
	agent sends back. The traps reference variables which are not even
	defined in the mib, hence you get the MTU errors. This particular
	mib probably works in conjunction with another mib which I haven't
	been able to locate yet.

	However, if you need the Novell Netware Server mib, you can find
	a copy at MOLAR::YAHEY_USER:[BOSE.PUBLIC]NOVELL_NETSVR_MIBDEF.TXT.
	I have verified that it translates cleanly through MTU.
