Application Launch fails with:
launch: can't open /dev/tty for standard in/standard out
: no such device or address
From either root account or an mcc account same failure.
All the applications on the map fail with this error except
for notification.
All the appropriate environment vairables are set via sourcing
the login csh scripts for mcc, sql , and nms.
The really interesting thing is these appliactions can be started
from the operating system prompt without problem.....
Based on the error message, I suspected a ttyp device/devices missing
or incorrect protections and owners but they are all there and all correct.
Any ideas how the application launch is done and WHAT tty it is actually
failing to find/access? I also explored their environment variables
based upon experiences of this sort with MSU, but compared to a working
mcc system the env variables are all there and correct.
any info would be appreciated....

Hello;
I called with this original issue. I have done some additional
research.
My original problem is that Polycenter Manager V1.3.1 (SSB) does
not allow any of the "application" windows to run from the iconic
map, when I START DECmcc from the Pulldown Session manager.
I discovered by accident, that the applications work fine, if I run
the mcc_iconic_map from the DECterm window directly.
This symptom is only exhibited during the pulldown from the session
manager. I have duplicated the symptoms on three different nodes,
running V4.3 Ultrix, and T1.3.1, and SSB v1.3.1.

I have just conferred with our release management, we did not release a v1.3.1 kit to ssb. An interim field test kit did exhibit this problem; it is fixed in V1.3. V1.3 started shipping from SSB on March 19, 1993. Please get this kit and application launch when the IMPM is started from the Session Manager should be fine. Note: we are still working on a problem when you start the IMPM from a DECterm and exit that DECterm, you can no longer launch DECterm based applications from the IMPM. It seems that some environmental info can not be retrieved by the new DECterm. The DECterm people are looking into this. Robin G. Fletcher | |||||
