4760.0. "Phase IV autotopology questions" by CTHQ::SCHNEIDER (Rick Schneider DTN 226-5904 LKG1-1 /w2 pole b14) Thu Mar 25 1993 01:53

I tried running the Phase IV autoconfig using adjacencies for a router
in the network (MCC v1.3, ELM V1.3). The Autoconfig mapped the nodes
that the router knew about and registered the nodes it could access
(partially registering nodes that did not have the NML object or did
not permit access to that object).

The node I chose to use in the autoconfig had five circuits:

    	DMB
    	Ethernet
        3 async connections

The nodes accessible via the Ethernet line were broken up into several
domains. What is the criteria for how the autotopology routine divides
    lan nodes into several domains?

When I open opened up one of the Ethernet domains created I found:

    	- Several nodes registered with no lines attached with correct
          node names
    	- Several nodes connected in a mesh of lines with correct node
	    names
    	- Several nodes with nodes number names not connected with any
          lines

What's really strange is that some of the nodes connected in the mesh
are end nodes with multiple lines connected to the icon. Shouldn't they
be represented by a single connection to an Ethernet segment?

Is there a spec or documentation on the methodology used to derive the
    map?

    						thanks,

    						rick
