4728.0. "Counter Creation Time was not returned." by CTHQ::SCHNEIDER (Rick Schneider DTN 226-5904 LKG1-1 /w2 pole b14) Sat Mar 20 1993 15:33

I had some problems with the following command:

    	DECmcc (V1.2.3)

MCC> show node4 manfrd all statistics
(wait about 1 minute for statistics...)

Counter Creation Time was not returned.
    	MCC>

So, I looked in the trusty Messages documentation and found...

    	Source: Performance Analyzer AM

User Action: The requested operation was not performed. Try again.

Ok, so I tried again, and again... with the same results...

After looking at this notes file, I realized that the counter creation
was calculated from the seconds since last zeroed item in the exec
    counters.

I wondered if the cause of the problem might be latched counters,
causing the problem? But, no I was looking at an Ultrix node that does
not maintain the exec counter for seconds since last zeroed...

Obviously, an DECnet Ultrix problem... But...,

Could the Messages Documentation be ENHANCED to be of some use...(ie.

Counter Creation Time is based on the 'Seconds since last zeroed' item in
    the xyz counters.

      -	Check to ensure that the counter value is not latched at its
	maximum value.

      - Check to ensure that the 'seconds since last zeroed' counter item is
returned by the entity being managed

I realize that the name of the counter value might differ depending on
the object being managed, so a table of Entity vs How counter creation
time is calculated might be very useful...

  Rick,

I agree - the documentation text doesn't help. I like your suggestion,
and have forwarded it to the PA documentation persion.
