4711.0. "MCC locks up ucx" by ICS::SHETHAR () Wed Mar 17 1993 22:00

    Hello,

Have loaded mcc v1.3 onto a VAXstation 4000 with a meager 24 meg of
memory in it. Install went fine, mcc came up fine. Then I noticed
I couldn't communicate with any IP entities. After fooling around
with things, I realized that mcc "locks up" UCX. That is, before
bringing up either the IMPM or FCL, I can ping everyone. Bringing
up either interface just freezes UCX operation. Nothing appears out
of wack doing a UCX>SHOW MEM/FU. The only way I can fix it is to
shutdown and restart UCX (staying out of mcc completely). This
smells like a "resource problem". Any ideas?

    Many thanks in advance....

What versions are involved?
	VMS
	UCX
	etc.

Did you run the Audit?

What are you doing with MCC? How many entities? How often?

The little bit of information you provided is kind of like asking
someone to divine what the problem is. More information is needed.

Also,
buy more memory. 24 Meg is just not enough for anything approaching
reasonable performance.

Sorry for the lack of info:

    	VMS 5.5-2
    	UCX 2.0
mcc_audit runs without suggesting any changes
Just brought it up so no rules are there
Am using DNS (on a remote node)
    	About 100 entities registered

I don't intend to do much with this system. I just wanted to see
SSB 1.3 load and work. Could the lack of memory be biting me?

    Hi,

Memory is more than likely not the issue. I have a customer who is
experiencing a very similar problem except for the fact that he is
doing the IP poller application to cause his hang. He uses the default
values for approx 40 IP entities and after about 8 minutes, the IP
poller starts reporting that the entities are no longer reachable. If
he exits DECmcc (shutting down the IP poller) and tries to do UCX
loops, they also fail. He needs to restart UCX to make it work again.
VMS is V5.5-2, DECmcc V2.3 (EMS or Polycenter 400) UCX is V2.0D (the
patch suggested by the UCX support group has been installed) and the
system is a VS4000-90 with 128 meg of memory. A UCX SHOW COMM and SHOW
COMM/MEMORY look the same before and after the failure. There are
still plenty of sockets available, as well as large and small buffers.
There is no indication of any drops occurring. NPAGEDYN and NPAGEVIR
are also sufficient at 1.3 MEG. MCC_AUDIT runs with no errors.

Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.
