We are running DECmcc V1.2 on VMS V5.5 (MicroVAX 3600) and the Exporter FM. We have the following sequence: 1. submit MCC_BACKGROUND_EXPORTER ... 2. MCC> EXPORT .... 3. everything is OK 4. MCC> DELETE EXPORT ... 5. delete/entry of MCC_BACKGROUND_EXPORTER 6. submit MCC_BACKGROUND_EXPORTER ... to the same Rdb database as above 7. MCC> EXPORT .... 8. and the message "Background exporting process is not set up" In order to succeed the EXPORT command, we NEED to wait 1 minute between 6 and 7. We suspect that the delete/entry (at point 5) is not completed before the next submit. Is it a normal behavior to put a wait in this sequence ? Thanks for your support. Jean-Luc

4704.1 | Yes, there is some startup delay | TOOK::R_SPENCE | Nets don't fail me now... | Wed Mar 17 1993 11:30 | 12 |
The background job checks that both the DECmcc startup and the RDB startups have run (and will retry a bunch of times before aborting) and then waits 30 seconds (though I don't know why) before starting the EXPORT Background process (which takes a while on it's own to get fully started. The checks for the DECmcc and RDB startups are for the case where the Batch queues get started and the job restarts after a reboot and the system startup has not got to the DECmcc and RDB stuff. It will retry the checks every 30 seconds for 20 minutes if needed. s/rob |
