4697.0. "RECORDING on SCRIPT-data ?" by STKHLM::BERGGREN (Nils Berggren EIS/Project dpmt, Sweden DTN 876-8287) Tue Mar 16 1993 07:53

Hi,

I'm experiencing some problem on recording data from a SCRIPT COMMAND entity.
Testing the script from IMPM or FCL (except what I mention in 4530.4)
works OK.

If I start recording the STATUS-partition with poll-interval = 2 minutes
and wait a couple of minutes and do a SHOW STATUS on historical data, I get
some funny output....

The script I use is a dummy which writes out "UP" or "DOWN" and the time.

To summarize the attached LOG:

	MCC> show script NMS command random all status, in domain tvt-sverige
	Script MALEN_NS:.NMS COMMAND MCC_RANDOM
	AT 16-MAR-1993 13:09:47 Status

	Examination of attributes show:
 	                      Command Executed = "@mcc_scripts:RANDOM_UP_OR_DOWN"
  	                                 arg1 = "UP"
   	                                arg2 = "1993-03-16 13:09:46.33"

	Start recording the script, and after a while I do

	MCC> show script NMS command random all status, for start -0:6:0, -
	     in domain tvt-sverige

	Script MALEN_NS:.NMS COMMAND random
	AT 16-MAR-1993 13:14:13 Status

	Examination of attributes show:
	                       Command Executed = "@mcc_scripts:RANDOM_UP_OR_DOWN"
	                                   arg1 = "exit"

	Script MALEN_NS:.NMS COMMAND random
	AT 16-MAR-1993 13:16:01 Status

	Examination of attributes show:
 	                      Command Executed = "@mcc_scripts:RANDOM_UP_OR_DOWN"
	                                   arg1 = "define/nolog"
	                                   arg2 = "sys$error"
	                                   arg3 = "SYS$SCRATCH:mcc_script_am_73228775952
	                                          4298.error"

Am I doing something wrong (which is not to unusual...) or what?

   regards,

     Nils

  Nils,

  The output you are seeing:

!                       Command Executed = "@mcc_scripts:RANDOM_UP_OR_DOWN"
!                                   arg1 = "define/nolog"
!                                   arg2 = "sys$error"
!                                   arg3 = "SYS$SCRATCH:mcc_script_am_73228775952
!                                          4298.error"

  looks like it is coming from the 'container' script that gets created
  to execute your script. This was necessary because there is some
  setup needed before your script can run; namely the sys$error logical
  needs to get defined.

  The output from your script is written to an .OUTPUT file ... the Script
  AM reads this file.

  Your output above comes from the .COMMAND file .. I can't think of how
  the files could get messed up this way.

  I imagine that you tried this a number of times and always got the same
  results. I'll try recording script data too and see what happens.

	I'm not familiar with Script but from the above examples it seems
  to me that In Domain qualifier is required for the "Show script.." command.
  If this is true the problem could be in the Historian FM.

  When In domain qualifier is specified in the Record command the Historian
  FM uses it to define the historical repositories to store recorded data but
  it does NOT pass it to the Show command which polls data.

  Could you, please, try from the FCL the "Show script.." command without
  In Domain qualifier? If I'm right the result will be the same as from
  Past Time Show and you should file a QAR against Historian.
