4683.0. "Translan Access Module" by LISVAX::ANDRE () Fri Mar 12 1993 08:45

	Hello,

Does anyone know what is the current status of the Vitalink Translan
Bridges management through DECmcc ?

We have a customer with version 1.1 of the MCC and with the Translan
Access Module who wants to migrate to the next version of DECmcc: what can he
do? Upgrade the Translan access module ? Use only the new funcionalities of the
SNMP access module ?

	Thanks in advance and regards,

	Miguel Andr.

See notes 3.225 regarding the updated version of the
Vitalink AM.

On the SNMP side, you have to have the correct version of
software in your bridges. Here are some examples:

Translan III version 6.11.1
Transaln 350 version 10.5.1
TRanslan 320 version 20.3.1

Hope this help

    Hi,

Yes, you could update the VBAM module. As indicated in -.1, with the
appropriate level of translan software (just released in Feb), you can
use the vitalink transpath mib supplied with MCC to manage the box. I
would personally recommend looking at SNMP management because it allows
one to obtain statistics such as utilization of lines. VBAM does not
    provide this capability.

    Dave,
Hi. In response to this note... HOW do you go about managing
Vitalink Bridges using the SNMP AM? I was unable to register them...
Is there a trick? Thanks in advance... /Mic IOOSRV::GALVIN.

I've had no problems.. they act just like any other SNMP device.

1) Do you have the correct version of Vitalink S/W?

2) Are the Vitalinks themselves configured via the 'rec' menu?

3) Can you 'ping' them with UCX?

4) Are the Vitalinks 'accessable' via IP on their Ethernet port?

   I've had this problem:

                         DECmcc
                            |
   =====Ethernet===+========+===============================

                   |
               Vitalink.......Telco ckt..............Vitalink
                (local) (remote)

Configured both Vitalinks with IP addresses... can access local Vitalink
via DECmcc but not the remote. Called Vitalink and they admitted that
there is a problem with the software and that you cannot access the
remote box. In my case, the 'local' was a TL350 and the remote was an
NP3.
