4632.0. "Statistics on a DECnis" by USTICA::ODOARDI () Thu Mar 04 1993 06:20

	Hi,

I inserted some decnis in my DECmcc 1.2.3 (VMS + extension).

When I registered DEMSA, I had to configure some parameters like
cost and speed necessary to obtain line / circuit statistics, if
I didn't set the line speed, I couldn't obtain statistics.

Now, I've selected a Decnis, I've done OPERATION -> STATISTIC and,
after 1 minutes it's works, BUT I haven't set speeds.

I'd like to know if Decnis is able to configure itself all
the parameters it needs to produce statistics, and if it's able
to do it correctly, so I can consider correct this information
(like error percent, traffic inbound/outbound percent and so on),
I mean is Decnis able to find itself the correct speed and
give me the REAL line utilization (for example) ????

Thank you in advance for your help,

					Barbara

P.S.: I've searched on docs where statistics calculations for Phase V nodes
are, but I don't find they... Has someone a pointer to the algorithms ?

I do not know how the decnis works .. hopefully someone else can
answer that part of your question

but - look in the Performance Analyzer Use Manual for the equations
  used for statistical calculations.

The DECNIS synchronous line hardware can report back the actual speed of the
line although the accuracy is limited (at high speeds the calculation is
very approximate: a 2Mbps line may be reported as 2.5Mpbs).

Hi Graham/MCC engineers,

The users will want/demand 'accuracy' for reporting utilization. So we have a
problem. Potential solutions: a) make the attribute from DECnis accurate if
possible. or b) have MCC redefine (with prioritization) the attribute over
the DECnis returned value similar as to what is done today in DNA4. If this
doesn't get resolved both products will pay the 'integrity price' from the
customer as this will be a very visible issue.

best regards,
brad...
