4592.0. "Problem with Alarm Mgr !" by UMSL::SYSTEM () Wed Feb 24 1993 09:37
I'm setting up a demo system for a specific customer demo using BMS V1.3 and the
Alarm Manager EFT software. I've started experiencing a problem where the
Alarm manager will not come up from the Launched Applications menu. I went back
and tried running the Alarm Manager from a terminal window, and received the
following error message:
$ mcr mcc_alarm_mgr
ERROR: An error has occured while obtaining rule templates. Exiting...
I tried loggin off and even rebooting the system and still received the same
error message when trying to start the Alarm Manager. As a last resort, I
decided to reinstall the Alarm Manager. When I did, I receved the following
message from VMSINSTAL:
%MCCALMMGR-E-READ_ONLY, The Dictionary is currently locked for read only access.
-MCCALMMGR-E-READ_ONLY, Please make sure DECmcc is not running if you want to
-MCCALMMGR-E-READ_ONLY, update the dictionary.
* Do you want to continue [NO]?
I immediately stopped the installation and left things alone.
I'm running mcc BMS V1.3 with the local namespace for th MIR. Can anyone shed
some light on what is wrong, and the quickest way to rectify the problem.
I think the Alarm manager is a great tool, and it helps show mcc in its best
light. Since we are up against HP Openview in this account, I want to demo
as many user friendly functions as possible.
I'm supposed to deliver this demo system today to the customer's site, so any
help ASAP will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

4592.1 | leftover sink processes are culprit | KAJUN::NELSON | | Wed Feb 24 1993 13:13 | 6 |
| After phone conversation with Merlin. It was discovered that he had
some sinks still running (in a hung state) on the system. Removing the
sink processess freed up his dictionary.
