4580.0. "Can IP Poller notification event fire a rule?" by CSOADM::ROTH (Hey,this toothpaste tastes like GLUE!) Fri Feb 19 1993 15:58

MCCbms T1.3.1
VMS 5.5, 32MB
3100/M76

I need to execute a command procedure whenever an IP Poller event occurs.

I have created a rule (see below) to detect this but it never executes the
command procedure associated with it.

When the poll failure (or poll success) occcurs, I get two identical
notifications, per poll event, in the notification window (only used
to get one notification before I tried creating the rule).

!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Alarm, 19-FEB-1993 15:33:56 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! [30,11]
Domain: LOCAL_NS:.roth                                Severity: Clear
Notification Entity: SNMP LOCAL_NS:.rothags
Event Source: SNMP LOCAL_NS:.rothags
Event: IP Reachability Up
Entity is now reachable :

!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Alarm, 19-FEB-1993 15:54:39 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! [27,13]
Domain: LOCAL_NS:.roth                                Severity: Critical
Notification Entity: SNMP LOCAL_NS:.rothags
Event Source: SNMP LOCAL_NS:.rothags
Event: IP Reachability Down
Entity is no longer reachable :

The rule that I have created is:

Create Domain LOCAL_NS:.roth Rule ROTH_PING_FAIL  -
  Expression = (OCCURS (SNMP * IP reachability DOWN)), -
  Severity     = Critical, -
  Category     = "SNMP_PINGFAIL", -
  Description = "SNMP box failed IP polling", -
  Alarm Fired Procedure        = _DKA700:[MCC.ROTH]ROTH_FAIL.COM, -
  Alarm Exception Procedure    = _DKA700:[MCC]MCC_ALARMS_LOG_EXCEPTION.COM, -
  Alarm Fired Parameters       = "_DKA700:[MCC]MCC_ALARMS_LOG_EXCEPTION.LOG", -
  Batch Queue                  = "ALARMS$BATCH"
!
!

Is it possible to create an 'occurs expression' alarm rule that will fire
upon the occurance of an IP Poller event?

Thanks,

Lee

Lee,

This is a known bug in the T1.3.1 kit. It has been fixed for SSB.
