4570.0. "Mcc reporting on Ultrix anyone ?" by MFRNW1::DENIS () Thu Feb 18 1993 10:34

    Hi again All,

    If anyone is using Ingres reporting tools and VIGRAPH on DECmcc/Ultrix
    V1.2.3 then I could use all the information I can get about your
    experiences/successes/failures - whatever.

    cheers,
    Denis

4570.1i have used it , with some problemsTLSE01::SELLESPierre-Jean - Toulouse -FranceFri Feb 19 1993 12:1219
	in a customer situation , we use export and the reports package with
INgres tools , VIgraph to have the detail
of traffic utilization and error rates of fddi and ethernet lines of snmp CISCO
routers ( no decnet need )

	the 132 col. report works ok but we have problems making graphic reports
working ( note 4511 ); about those graph , looking at the vigraph doc, you
can modify the scripts furnished by mcc 1.2.3 to have graph fot vt340 or other
printers than ln03 ;

	it's quite easy to use ; the only thing i have not explored is the
way to automate the making of the reports ; as im'not a cshell guru , i guess
it's possible to produce reports every day and having them mailed to the network
manager account ;

  Having reports automatically generated is one of the things that is currently
 on the next phase 'wish list'.

  The other 'wish' is to make future modifications to the reports much easier for
 future programmers. I don't know if you realize this, but at the moment there are
 nearly 300 files associated to the reports package. This seems silly because reports
 aren't too difficult. The need for so many files stems from the original development
 of the package. On Ultrix there are shell scripts and on VMS there are command files.
 And both access different databases. The 'wish' is to consolidate all of these
 routines into one tidy package.
