4565.0. "UlTRIX 4.2a / Motif 1.1.1 / T1.3.1 pb" by ANNECY::HAGENMULLER (EIC Annecy - dtn 7887.41.99) Thu Feb 18 1993 05:34

We have a ULTRIX 4.2a WS running MOTIF 1.1.1 and I've installed DECmcc T131.
After reading the release_notes, we tried to upgrade in MOTIF 1.1.3, but this
version is not supported under ULTRIX 4.2a. For some reasons (support of an
other product), we can't upgrade ULTRIX to 4.3 for the moment.

After completing the installation of DECmcc, we started the IMPM from a
DEcterm window and received hundreds of messages like :

Seems there is an issue with Motif.
However, the iconic map comes up and all seems ok. But as soon as we try to
use the different menus we get blocked (for example clicking on the close
button in a window doesn't do anything, and the windows screens behind are no
longer refreshed).

Are there known patches to cope with this problem ? Any solution wellcomed ...

thanks in advance, Christophe

    Christophe, you do need to run ULTRIX DECwindows for OSF/Motif
    Version 1.1.3 to run the Iconic Map PM. I looked up the installation
    guide for DECwindows for OSF/Motif 1.1.3 and it said Ultrix 4.2 or
    higher. If you have 4.2a installed it should install. Make sure you
    run the installation verification procedure to double check your
    installation of Motif.

    Here is the clip from the installation guide:

                     Operating System and Version:

Bob,

Seems there is a problem somewhere.
When trying to instal Motif 1.1.3 I get the following messages :

You are installing the following subsets:
   OSF/Motif User Environment (RISC) Additional OSF/Motif Apps. (RISC)
   OSF/Motif Development Env. (RISC)

Is this correct? (y/n): y
requires X11/DECwindows User Environment subset for ULTRIX/UWS V4.3 or higher,
cannot install.

Installation declined by subset control program.
OSF/Motif User Environment (RISC) (DXMX1111301) will not be loaded.
requires ULTRIX V4.3 or higher, cannot install

are the required X11/DECwindows User Environment subset for ULTRIX/UWS V4.3 and
 Workstation Developemnt Environemnt subset for ULTRIX V4.3 availaible under
ULTRIX 4.2a ???
Is there a way to force this installation ?

any help ...

4565.3V1.1.3 and not V1.1.3.0.1ANNECY::HAGENMULLEREIC Annecy - dtn 7887.41.99Fri Feb 19 1993 07:589
Ok, the pb was I tried to install the Motif v 1.1.3-01 which comes with the
latest set of CD-ROMs and apparently requires ULTRIX 4.3.

I found an old version of our CD-ROMs (dated may 92) which contains Motif
v 1.1.3 and it works (except the upper border of new DECterm windows are out
of the screen, but this doesn't affect the way DECmcc is running),

Christophe.

4565.4DXMX11113 vs DXMX1111301TOOK::BMURRAYBob MurrayFri Feb 19 1993 10:1417

    Christophe,

    It seems I have OSF/Motif User Environment (RISC) (DXMX11113) installed
    on my Ultrix 4.2a system. Seems you are installing a DXMX1111301. I'm
    not sure what the difference in these two are without looking it up but
    the -01 seems to want Ultrix 4.3. Trying installing the DXMX11113 kit
    instead on your 4.2a system.

    BTW, you don't need to install the Developer's Env for Motif to run the
    Iconic Map. Might save you some resources unless you are doing
    development.
