I have a customer that is using TCP/IP to support Pathworks and a mission critical application that monitors some real time devices. The problem they have is that every now and then, a user brings up a device with a duplicate IP address and the IP network crashes (they don't use BIND). They would like to know if DECmcc can be used to detect and manage this problem. Any pointers on this would be appreciated.

nothing that I know of at this time. It is still the catch 22, if two boxes out there think that they are the same guy, when you ask "who are you?" you never know which one is going to reply. The ARP table should keep some of the information in there, and maybe someone has written something for checkin it for these discrepencies but I am not an IP person so I really can't help you any more on this one. |
