4510.0. "Synoptics 3394 AppleTalk MIB Support" by PHDVAX::PICCOLO (Al Piccolo - Services) Mon Feb 08 1993 12:24

    Our customer is attempting to use Synoptic 3394 AppleTalk bridges
    managed as SNMP entities from MCC (VAX/VMS v1.2). Now we've obtained a
    MIB from Synoptics for this purpose but the MCC_TCPIP_MTU procedure
    fails during the compile phase.

    I contacted Synoptics. They said that their MIB works fine on SunNet
    (?) and an MS-DOS based platform but they can not support every
    management platform "out there", so... (well, you get the idea).

    The MIB came from Farallon, Inc. and bears a version number "v0.19.1".
    Synoptics is referring me to them. I haven't contacted Farallon yet but
    frankly I don't feel all that good about getting the problem solved
    over the phone. So...

    If you have dealt with this problem successfully or can direct me to a
    more hopeful source or have some constructive advice to lend then I
    invite you to please do so. I intend to post any solution (if I find
    one) as a reply to this note.

4510.1Pointer to the MIB?VCSESU::WADEBill Wade, VAXc Systems & Support EngFri Feb 19 1993 12:427
    Al,

    If mtu fails during the compile stage it gives a line number in the
    mib. I assume you didn't see anything strange in the mib?

    Could you post a pointer to the mib? No guarantees but I'd like to see
    what mtu is complaining about if the mib loads onto SunNet Manager.
4510.2Farallon Computing Helps OutPHDVAX::PICCOLOAl PiccoloFri Feb 19 1993 14:1712
    I talked to a support engineer at Farallon Computing in California (the
    original makers of the MIB). He was extraordinarily cooperative and
    offered specific changes to the MIB which worked completely.

    Thanks to Bill Wade for offering to help. I didn't see your reply
    before I got Farallon involved.

    The changes had to do with defining a parent entity for some SynOptic
    specific object identifiers. If any one needs details contact me via
    E-mail and I'll share all the details.
