4498.0. "Notification problem after upgrading VMS " by ZUR01::SCHNEIDERR () Thu Feb 04 1993 04:38

HELLO,

A customer of us upgraded VMS 5.5 to 5.5-2 and now the notification AM is not
running anymore. We have MCC V1.2.3 and DNS.

The following happens:
When he starts the IMPM he gets some errors:
-- Notification is unavailible, please check that the Notification AM is enrolled
-- MCC-E-DSPMMLOCFILERR, dispatch local management module file accedd error
   during probe (the same error if we do a test/show notification_am)

-- MCC> enroll MCC_ALARMS_FM
MCC-I-ENRDUPLENTRY, enrollment successful, duplicate entries found and replaced
   MCC> enroll MCC_NOTIFICATION_FM
MCC-I-REPOSEXIST, repository already exists

Any idea what that could be?

The second customer who has the same problem and he also upgraded from to 5.5-2.

If he tries to go to RULE VIEW, the error message "Repository does not exist"
apeares.

What do you mean? Are we tho only ones who upgrade to VMS 5.5-2 or does somebody
else have the same problem. Here we have two customers who tried it and both
have the same problem. Should we install MCC again?
Our local VMS specialists can't help me, but they told me that a lot have
changed in VMS 5.5-2.

4498.2CMA image idents in V1.2 and V1.3 DECmccTEMTY::L_GROSSMANMon Feb 08 1993 11:1419
Here are the correct images idents for the CMA images in sys$library.
You can compare them by entering:

$analy/image <image-name>

and then look for "image file identification"

If the CMA$RTL image here is higher then the one on the system,
the installation will replace all the images. Otherwise you will
have to extract the images from the kit and place them in sys$library
or delete the images (when no one else is on the system) and install
DECmcc.

4498.3Things to check/tryTOOK::GUERTINMCC: Legend or Nightmare?Tue Feb 09 1993 07:2324
    Please post a log file of the problems. There must be more to it
    than just Repository Exists/Does not Exist.

    Things you should check:
    	1) Check that your system date is correct, the year is 1993
                                                               ^^^^
    	2) Check that your TDF is set correctly for your time zone
    	3) Check that you are not redirecting search paths with MCC
           logicals.
        4) Check if you have any MIR files in MCC_SPECIFIC

    Things you can try:
    	1) Try deleting MCC_SYSTEM:MCC_TARGET_DATA_MIR.DAT,
                        MCC_SYSTEM:MCC_TARGET_INST_MIR.DAT
           (they will get recreated on new targetting assignments)
        2) Try restoring the MCC_COMMON:MCC_MIR_DIRECTORY.DAT and
                             MCC_COMMON:MCC_MIR_ATTRIBUTE.DAT
           from the kit saveset.

    Also, as I mentioned above, posting a log file often helps. Even
    if there doesn't appear to be any additional information.

    on another system today.
