4497.0. "MIR files corrupted?" by ZUR01::SCHNEIDERR () Thu Feb 04 1993 04:29

Hello,

I have two terminal servers registered I cant deregister them and can't register
them as new ones. I have VMS V5.5-2, MCC V1.2.3 local MIR. It seems to me that
the MIR is corrupted.

Is there a possibility to manipulate the MIR files and delete some entries?

Or can I copy the empty MIR files from the saveset and run all my registration
procedures to populate them from new?

Right now, I would recommend you re-create the Local MIR files, or
restore them from the saveset. I am working on documenting an
existing VMS-MIR tool which allows users to "patch" Local MIR
files. I am hoping that we can build scripts on top of this utility
which will simply prompt the user for the objects which need to be
    removed.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

4497.2What files are involvedZUR01::SCHNEIDERRThu Mar 18 1993 08:1419
Hello,

I know it's a long time ago since I wrote my question.

Can somebody tell me, what files I must recover from the savesets, to have a
complete empty, proper local MIR database. Or can I create a new one via
some kind of MIRbuilder? I found that when I do some registration and other
things, some files are involved.

This are mcc_common:*mir*.* and
         mcc_common:mcc_dns_att.dat
	 mcc_common:mcc_dns_ent.dat

There are some *mir* files that are different from the savesets, but where never
modified through all my commands.

So could someone explain how I get an new empty database?

Thanks Roland

MIR's are created at Enrole time, if they are needed.

That is what bad MMs do :-)

Seriously, they are also created at startup time (probe) ...
	most of the time.

	Regards.

You are both only partially correct. MIRs are created the first time an
mcc_mir_create_repository call is issued against a MIR which doesn't
already exist. There is no standard as to when this happens. For some
MMs, it happens the first time the MIR needs to be used, for example,
the MIR containing the local instance repository (if you don't use DNS)
is created the first time a REGISTER command is issued. (For this
reason, the MCC installation procedure issues a REGISTER MCC 0 command
so that the repository will be created with a known owner, before we
did this we always wound up with some random user owning this MIR, and
    people got confused).

To my knowledge the ALARMS FM is the only one that creates repositories
at enroll time, so if you start with no MMs running and no MIRs, it
should be sufficient to re-enroll the alarms FM and then do a REGISTER
MCC 0. All others will be created either when their modules are
probed, or on first need to access.

Hello all,

Thanks for your answers. Dos it mean, that I can delete the two files
MCC_TS_AM_MIR.DAT and MCC_TS_AM_INST.DAT and reinstall the TSAM and my MIR,with
all the servers in, is empty and my problem (.0) is gone? Am I able to register
my servers from scratch on?
