Hi all,
I'm going to use DECmcc/VMS in a Network Management project where
there are several Chipcom HUB to be managed.
I'm a little confused about what can be done at the moment with the
Chipcom HUB from DECmcc and what will be available with the ONdemand
package.
Can someone spend few words for that?
Many thanks

ONdemand is chipcom management software, developed by chipcom, which
gives you graphical representation of online slots in the hub, and all
enterprise specific port traps. From mcc -ultrix only, this can
be a launched application, from there it is totally controlled by
chipcom Ondemand software ( SNMP based).

With the VMS version of DECmcc you will have some SNMP MIB tables to
compile that will let you poll the Hubs for the values of the MIB
variables. Alarms can be set that will key on on the values in the MIB
variables. The hard part is understanding all of the MIB variables and
using the long names that go with them.
The OnDemand software that Chipcom sells is a hub management tool that
provides a graphic user interface. It simplifies management and is
easy to use. This software is available for Sun Netmanager and is
going into field test for our Ultrix systems but currently it is not
being planned for VMS. We need to let the Chipcom folks know that
there is a need for this tool on VMS.
Hope that helps
