| I would suggest that you ask this either of the TeMip product managers,
or in the NOTED::EMF_REQ notes conference.

The TeMIP group is working on Trouble Ticketing, and this application
will be in Field Test soon. Of course, it's on Ultrix (and OSF/1
later)...
Please contact me by mail if you need more information.

While not an out-of-the-box capability, you can certainly do this sort
of thing 'ex post facto' by creating 'restricted access' accounts by:
- making them captive accounts
- using appropriate ACLs or file protections on certain files
- redefining MCC logicals to point to 'crafted' DECmcc dictionaries
(ones that have been doctored in DAP to remove 'dangerous' verbs or
object classes) and parse tables.
Like I said, it's not 100% obvious to the casual observer, but it can
be done...

Why isn't it sufficient to be able to activate the trouble ticket
application from one of the pull-down menus on the Iconic Map? With
V1.3 you have all sorts of menu customization capability on the Iconic
Map's pull-down menus and you can't run the Notification Services
without the Iconic Map.
It would be nice, to be able to launch an application with selected
notification data passed as a parameter (sorta like we can do with the
V1.3 launch mechanisms.)

P.S. For VMS trouble ticketing/tracking I strongly recommend Target
Systems "Hotline" product. It works well, they're familiar with
integrating Target Hotline with DECmcc (they have even sent docs to
customers explaining how) previously and they are a good partner
willing to work with DEC... (And No, they don't pay me to say
that..;^) )

Well, it is sufficient as long as I can get the data about a selected
notification into the launched application....

I haven't read the manuals for v1.3 yet, but are you saying that
notification data (like the data that may be extracted from the
notif-window) may be passed to the launched application in v1.3?
In that case, as I understand, this is what I'm looking for!
> P.S. For VMS trouble ticketing/tracking I strongly recommend Target

I've been looking at Hotline and have run into serious problems. The
customer requires that certain trouble tickets (related to IBM-stuff)
may be exported to InfoMAN (TT application om the IBM - YES, I've asked
the same question: why two TT-applications....?, but the customer is
always right, right?).
This requires some kind of API into Target->HOTLINE which they don't
have yet. I've been promised by Dick HArlow, VP, Target Systems, that
they will have some DCL i/f that can do more than just create a ticket
by feb 1:st.
About the docs you're mentioning; do you know if there's any docs on
integrating with Hotline more than using the HOTLOG command from a
DCL-procedure to create a ticket? Specifically I want to read, modify
and close an existing ticket, given its reference number.
Have you looked at UIS' Helpline product? It has the same
functionality as Target's Hotline, but there's a MOTIF-based user I/F
as well as a charcter cell I/F and the database is RDB.
cheers,
Nils

Well, no you can't. That's why I said "It would be nice if..." I
believe that Brad Woodcock was also pining for this capability a few notes
back. I'm pretty sure that this *specific* capability for launch won't
make it into teh 1.3 release, but you should do the following to make
certain that it doesn't get lost: - put a reply or note in NOTED::EMF_REQ
for this - send mail to Robin Fletcher (TOOK::FLETCHER) for more details

The only docs I've seen from Target are for
1. *creating* trouble tickets based on formatted mail messages sent by
the DECmcc Alarms FM procedure
2. sending ticket escalation information (opening, escalating, closing,
etc) *back* to DECmcc as events via the Data Collector
MCC_EVC_SEND.EXE script

I've worked with UIS to try to get them to use the same methods as Target
and as far as I know they have not done anything to promote integration
with DECmcc like Target Systems. I believe that Target has committed to
providing a Motif UI and also migrating their RMS-based database to RDB.
Please talk to Dick Harlow or Jerry Croteau at Target about this...
