4445.0. "Help with V1.3 SSB release, please" by ADO75A::BOUCHER () Tue Jan 26 1993 03:25

Can anyone please give me some idea as to when DECMcc V1.3 will be SSB
    released ?

I have 2 new sites to install and 1 existing site to upgrade, when V1.3
    is available.

I don't want to install V1.2 if V1.3 is only a matter of a couple of
    weeks away.

Q: Would I be better off installing V1.2, then upgrading, even if V1.3
is only a short time away ?

The sites that I have to install have no Bridges (ELM not needed).
TSAM is the only additional AM over BMS that is required.

A positive answer will greatly relieve a lot of people.

well a positive answer is my opinion. Now why....

V1.3 is not far off, but it is NOT going to be two weeks either.
We still have a few issues (such as ELMs) to be resolved before
going to SSB, so it will be about a month to FCS (don't read that
as a commitment, because that isn't my job; this is my opinion of
the current situation). Okay so why load 1.2.3 if 1.3 is so close
(because a month isn't far off), well if they really are only going
to have to load in the Terminal server stuff, the install time won't
be too bad when you have to reinstall on 1.3 and this will give
them a month to get the systems reasonably configured (mem, accounts,
quotas) and to start setting up their namespace. The namespaces
don't change or require reregistration so this major aspect of setup
is not a waste. This will also give you time to figure out your
rules, and then before the upgrade to an extract of all your rules
(as a backup) so that they can be reloaded into the upgraded system.

Personally I find that getting people started is a good way to get
all the drudgery out of the way so by the time 1.3 comes along it
will seem like a breeze to do the quick upgrade and get all the
    new functionality.

    Again, one persons opinion.

Jill's correct. V1.3 is planning on submitting to the SSB about 2/15.

One problem, however, that we've had to deal in V1.3 with is the underlying
revision of the "threads" in VMS. After V1.3 is "released" on VMS,
there will be an upgrade to Mcc V1.3 on VMS to become consistant with
the threads to ship in VMS and other layered products.
BUT ... We need to make sure that ALL VMS V1.3 kits get upgraded.

Question: How would it be if ....

V1.3 (VMS & ULTRIX) SSB kits are made available here, obviously
Any new orders for Mcc would get V1.3,
and if on VMS, also subsequently get the upgraded V1.3
Customers on MDDS/Service Agreement for Mcc on ULTRIX
                receive V1.3
Customers on MDDS/Service agreements for Mcc on VMS
receive ONLY the upgraded V1.3 kit from the SSB
&, If YOU want to install V1.3 VMS at a customer site, ENSURE
that the updated V1.3 VMS is also installed when available

Comments ? Reactions ? Workable ?
