4439.0. "more graph weirdness" by GUMBAH::DAWSON (Subvert the Dominant Paradigm) Mon Jan 25 1993 14:45

I'm using DECmcc on VMS v5.5-2 Mcc V1.2.

I'm looking at an ethernet interface on a Node4 system that happens to
be a vax 4600. When I graph the outbound and inbound bytes I get
about 63000+ bytes for one time period and then nothing (a miniscule
blip on the line, just enough to show that another time period has
passed) for the rest of the time periods (default time periods) on the
ooutbound side and nothing (blips again) on the inbound side.

It's like it's trying to read the values but nothing is showing up. Do
I have to muck with the scope of interest time or some such?

Other statistics like outbound data blocks, inbound data blocks,
outbound block rate, inbound block rate graph fine. Average inbound
and outbound block size are depicted as above, with the miniscule blip
    on the graph.

Something is obviously wrong, I just don't know what it is.

It may be operator error, but it's not intuitively obvious if it is.

    Any help?

    Mike

4439.1more info...GUMBAH::DAWSONSubvert the Dominant ParadigmMon Jan 25 1993 15:139
    more info on base note...

On this particular node are two ethernet interfaces...QNA-0 and ISA-0

Graphing outbound andinbound bytes on line QNA-0 works just fine. It's
Line ISA-0 that displays the weirdness in the base note. Just thought
I'd add that in case it has some bearing on the problem.

    Some more info...

When I do a show statistics fromthe operations menu on the map for this
particular interface I get 0 bytes for both OUtbound and Inbound bytes.

Why is this info not being collected?

I also get 0 for Average outbound and inbound block size.

    Any help out there?

    Thanks,

    Mike

From the FCL I enter the following command and get the following
    results:

    MCC> show node4 trout1 line isa-0 all statistics, for duration 0:2:0

    Node4 trout1 Line isa-0
    AT 26-JAN-1993 11:01:51 Statistics

    Examination of Attributes shows:
                                   Duration = 119 Seconds
                       Outbound Utilization = 1.000000E-02 Percent
                        Inbound Utilization = 1.000000E-02 Percent
                Average Outbound Block Size = 0 Bytes/Block
                 Average Inbound Block Size = 0 Bytes/Block
                        Outbound Block Rate = 4.39 Blocks/Sec
                         Inbound Block Rate = 4.61 Blocks/Sec
                           Deferred Percent = 0
                   Single Collision Percent = 0
                 Multiple Collision Percent = 0
                  Inbound Multicast Percent = 6.39
                              Error Percent = 0
Count of Data Overrun Blocks = 0
Count of System Buffers Unavailable = 0
Count of User Buffers Unavailable = 0
Count of Collision Detect Failures = 0
Count of Unrecognized Frame Destination = 0
Count of Frame Send Failures = 0
Count of Frame Receive Failures = 0
                        Ethernet Contention = 0 Percent
                             Outbound Bytes = 0 Bytes
                              Inbound Bytes = 0 Bytes
Outbound Data Blocks = 522 Blocks
Inbound Data Blocks = 548 Blocks

So why are outbound and inbound bytes 0 when outbound and inbound
blocks are non-zero? Am I missing something?

So, does nobody know what is going on here? No attempts? Have I
stumped the panel? Is anyone left in MCC Engineering?

I suggest that you contact Anne (TOOK::) Pelagatti or
Chris (MOLAR::) Brienen, who are the managers responsible
for the network components of DECmcc (including statistics).

Well, we just had a complete site power failure here. When everything
came back up, I did this again...and it's working now.

    Stranger and stranger...
