4379.1 | Ultrix=now, VMS=soon | FARMS::LYONS | Ahh, but fortunately, I have the key to escape reality. | Wed Jan 13 1993 15:22 | 3 |
| If this is Ultrix, see the MCC-TOOLS notes file for a set of instructions
If this is VMS, there is an effort to document the tool and release it via
the MCC-TOOLS conference real soon.

I hope this tool is available real soon as I have three customer
sites using local name spaces with similar problems/weirdness
ie:
- the ever popular entity is registered until you want to deregister it
gag and vice vesa
- In another case if I register a particular circuit using the circuit am,
members in that domain disappear from the the namespace. If I
deregister that circuit instance, they magically reappear
- reference entities disappear from map. attempting to show the member
form FCL lists this particular reference entity 6 times! When trying
to re- register it I receive a "mcc-e-noparent, parent does not exist"
So far I have been able to delay the repair of this by telling
customer to create another entity using a different name however its
not a real confidence booster. If you need a test site I'd like to try
it.

Any news on this front? I had hoped real soon meant just that.
There is still a need for this tool.

4379.5 | doesn't work as well as we thought it would | TOOK::GUERTIN | MCC: Legend or Nightmare? | Tue Mar 30 1993 16:13 | 12 |
| William Kwak developed a tool to delete dangling links on VMS Local
MIRs. However, most of the corrupted MIR repositories that he saw
had more severe problems than just dangling links, so he questioned
the value of the tool. A longer term solution would be to do a
read-write copy of the Local MIR database thereby removing error
records. This would end up being more work to implement.
Send William (TOOK::KWAK) mail if you think you could use his tool
(yes, I know this should go in the MCC-TOOLS conference).
