| I hope this is a DECnet phase IV system... as a previous note indicated,
this may be the error you get one Phase V systems...which are not supported.

4332.3 | Is TSM being used at same time ? | SIOG::TINNELLY | Consultancy for fee NOT free.. | Tue Jan 05 1993 08:59 | 13 |

Hello,
Is it possible that someone else on site is using TSM product and
is connected to the server. I had cannot communicate with server
type error messages on a site and found that some other network
manager was using TSM while I was trying to use TSAM.
Perhaps, perhaps not.

4332.4 | Thought of that... | NPACEA::SAWYER | | Tue Jan 05 1993 09:51 | 11 |
| It IS possible, but I've tried to register them at all hours, even
late at night when I knew no one would be there.
Same error every time.
So I tend to doubt that it is TSM which is interrupting the
connection.
Thanks for the Suggestion

4332.5 | Do you have TSM? | CSOADM::ROTH | You like it, it likes you! | Tue Jan 05 1993 10:07 | 9 |
| If you have TSM on the site...
See if TSM can connect to the console. I have seen situations where TSM
says 'Console reservation attempt failed'... it is unclear to me what causes
this (maybe someone doing an NCP CONNECT?). If another TSM user has the server
then TSM yields the message 'Console is in use by another user'.

4332.7 | Still haven't Solved it!!! | SPANKY::SAWYER | | Fri Jan 08 1993 10:53 | 6 |
| I am still haven't solved this problem and the customer is getting
"itchy" cuz he wants his terminal servers being managed
(I can't see why!! 8-) )
Any one else have any other suggestions or EVER come across something
similar???

| Just a couple of questions (no answers)?
Is it always the same servers that you can't communicate with?
Can you get info returned using the show command and the hardware
address? They don't have to be registered to talk to them. Put the
show command in a com file and let it loop for awhile to see if it will
eventually communicate.
Are you succesful at communicate with them using the Station AM and the
hardware address?
How many ethernet controllers do you have on your DECmcc system?
|
4332.9 | Did Register with STATION AM. | SPANKY::SAWYER | | Tue Jan 12 1993 09:49 | 13 |
| Thanks for your response Bill.
Yes it is always the same servers that will not register and I can't
get any info on them by using the SHOW command.
Thanks for the idea about registering them with the STATION AM, I
hadn't thought of that! And they did register using the STATION AM
which puzzles me even more??? Does this give you an idea to what
might be the problem??
And there is only 1 Ethernet Controller on the system.

4332.10 | Finally Fixed, THANKS!!! | SPANKY::SAWYER | | Tue Jan 12 1993 11:52 | 13 |
| Bill, you got me going in the right direction and the problem
is finally solved.
In my .com file I was specifying the name of the name-space in the
name of the entity (NSDP_NS:.ts.ds3paa).
I deregistered everything and registered them without specifying the
name space and they all registered!
This sounds verrrry wierd because I don't think it should matter,
but thanks to all who helped!!
