4291.0. "Management of SNA gateways " by BELFST::ROONEY (Hugh Rooney) Mon Dec 21 1992 06:23

I have a DECmcc customer who also uses VMS/SNA to interface to an IBM mainframe.
VMS/SNA runs on a different system from DECmcc. At present in order to manage
the VMS/SNA links they have to log onto the VMS/SNA system and use SNANCP. Are
there any plans to provide MCC with the ability to manage SNA gateways and/or
VMS/SNA hosts ?

Using the Polycenter SNA manager tool we can manage the IBM side of these links
from DECmcc but we are unable to manage the DEC end of the link !

Many Thanks for any help/information.

Regards

    the NMA (Network Management Applications) group is looking into
    the gateway management question. At this time I do not know when
    it will be resolved though. If you would like to add your two
    cents into the requirements process please send mail to Deb Curtis
    or the NMA product management group.

4291.2Worked around it using VCS...HERON::TIMMERMANSTue Jan 05 1993 09:5922
Hugh,

We used VCS to get around the sethost to the SNAncp system for SNAGWY management.

The system that runs VCS has also the SNAGWY managemnt software installed, the
"GWY consoles" are connected to virtual terminals (FTAs) on the VCS system.

We made some GWY scan profiles to monitor the DECnet/SNA events that are logged
onto the virtual consoles, the filtered events are then sent to the MCC platform
using the datacollector.

The Launched application capability permits us to display the VCS virtual console
on the system running Mcc. The console displays the SNANCP> prompt and waits for
commands to be excuted on the specific GWY.

As you see some setup has to be done, but it is better than nothing.

We showed this to some customers overhere and there is a real interest in having
a good integration of the SNAgwy management on the Mcc Platform.

Luc
