4283.1 | You need more memory. | TOOK::MCPHERSON | pre-retinal integration | Fri Dec 18 1992 08:31 | 11 |
| >I am running VMS 5.5-1 on a 3100 with 20MB, having installed MOTIF 1.1
>("DW V1.1-920519" to be more precise).
Your configuration is about 4 MB memory shy of the *minimum*
configuration. The IMPM will consume a lot more memory than the FCL,
so that's probably why it worked and the IMPM did not.
Add more memory then see if you still have the problem.

4283.2 | Tried a few things ... but still the same .... | HERON::TIMMERMANS | | Mon Dec 21 1992 04:33 | 28 |
| First the configuration to make sure we start with the same data:
ORESTE VS3100 20mb bootmember NI-cluster
SIRENE VS3100 24mb clustermember
PYTHIA uV3100 32MB clustermember
MERCUR uV3200 16mb clsutermember
The cluster is running VMS 5.5-1 and DECwindows Motif 1.1
image name: "DECW$MWM"
image file identification: "DW V1.1-920519"
link date/time: 20-MAY-1992 04:13:14.37
linker identification: "05-05"
MCC T1.3
Examination of Attributes Shows:
Component Version = T1.3.0
Component Identification = "DECmcc"
Namespace Selection = "Local File System"
If 24Mb is the minimum memory requirement then probably SIRENE will NOT work
because we are running in a cluster and need more memory as apposed to standalone
I tried to fire up the IMPM from PYTHIA (32MB) displaying on ORESTE, SIRENE and
a VXT (The VXT is booted on/from a 6xxx machine running VMS 5.5-1 and the same
version of DECwindows motif).
All 3 IMPM startups failed with the same error as described in .1
|
4283.3 | Got ithe IMPM startup hanging on one try.... | HERON::TIMMERMANS | | Mon Dec 21 1992 06:13 | 29 |
| I had the IMPM startup hanging once after I entered previous note, I took a show
process/cont snapshot.
The process never changed states when I was looking at it.

4283.4 | MCC_AUDIT, first? | TOOK::MCPHERSON | pre-retinal integration | Mon Dec 21 1992 08:33 | 7 |
| Have you tried running MCC_AUDIT.COM on any of the systems to check the process
and SYSGEN params? If not, please do, since it saves us a *lot* of time
playing "20 Questions" about system confogurations....
/doug
|
4283.5 | Yes MCC_AUDIT was run first... | HERON::TIMMERMANS | | Mon Dec 21 1992 09:09 | 8 |
| I ran the MCC_audit as I suspected some resource problem, I monitored the FREE
Gblpages and Sects during the startup.
I have 3096 FREE_GBLPAGES and 288 FREE_GBLSECTS, this drops to 2060 FREE_GBLPAGES
and 287 FREE_GBLSECTS at the time of the toolkit error.

4283.6 | check memory. | GOSTE::CALLANDER | | Thu Dec 31 1992 13:51 | 8 |
| could you also do a sho mem to see what kind of memory you have
allotted currently to the page file (again remembering two
things, two page files is like Russian roulette because your
application will only run within the bounds of one of them;
and secondly, unless you reboot after audit might have told you
to increase the files, they won't be available).

fires up without any problem.

cluster

Will a reboot fix our problem, if not any clues?
