Hi all you terminal server fans,
Here is my problem, I have alarms set up on the Mux servers, see the
log file below, all of a sudden they start going off with communications
with target has been interrupted. A look with TSM (also provided ) shows
all terminall servers in error status. This has happend a couple of times
now. One time we had to reboot the machine, the second time we only had to
quit DECmcc and restart with manage/enter. THe terminal servers were still
reachable via other vms machines. any one have any ideas?

This looks like a fairly severe bug, and I don't have any ideas off-hand
what might be causing it. Do you happen to know if the LAN gets partitioned
prior to this problem occuring? Is the other VMS system which does succeed
in connecting on the same ethernet segment?
A bug exists in TSM (which TSAM is layered on top of) where if the terminal
server crashes or reboots while TSM is connected to it, for some reason
the connection
does not time out, and until the TSM user with the hung connect exits,
the terminal server (which has since rebooted) is inaccessable from the
any process on node which the orginal TSM connect was made. (But is accessible
from other nodes on the network.)
That does not convienently explain why *all* of your MUXservers are
inaccessible at the same time though.
I currently do not have time to research this problem. If this is a
show-stopper for your customer, I would suggest that you file a CLD,
that will give this problem some visibility to my management.

| Thanks Dave,
I will CLD this problem. I upgraded the TSAM and it happened again
after that. Also, the mux server did not crash, and as far as I know
the lan was not segmented. No the two VMS machines are not on the same
segment. It has happened twice now, fairly close together, I can only
hope the frequency doesn't increase. But I will CLD the matter, because
I need a better solution then, just hope it doesn't happen too often.
