MCC/VMS 1.2 Not sure if this is normal but why does one have to REGISTER a SNMP node's private MIB extension in order to interrogate it? I thought that once the MIB extension was compiled and loaded into the database, that you could directly interrogate the extension objects for a particular node. It seems that for every SNMP node I need to do a REGISTER SNMP foofoo PROTEON in order to view the objects. Or is there a way to get this done for you when registering the SNMP node the first time around? -- thanx, Guy

During registration, the child mib entities which are supported by the SMNP entity get registered automatically. However, if the entity is partially registered, then none of the child entities get registered. There is a QAR against Registration FM regarding this behaviour. (Partial registration of SNMP AM may happen due to the absence of internet names, which does not prevent normal operation). You will have to re-register all SNMP entities to get the appropriate mib child entities also registered, and subsequently appear on the map. You do not need to register each entity by hand. I believe the T1.3 release notes spell out a procedure which will allow re-registration to happen automatically. Rahul. |
