4262.1 | SET DISPLAY for a clustah! | JUNG::GALVIN | Mic, MCC...while you wait! | Wed Dec 16 1992 11:37 | 21 |
| Julie Ann,
Hi. I can't answer all your questions, however, I can answer the
one related to the "clustered environment..." As for bringing up the
Iconic Map on a satellite in (I'm assuming, MIVc or LAVc) the cluster,
this is pretty simple. Just do the following at your satellite.
julie ann: SET DISPLAY/CREATE/NODE='the_node_you're_on'/TRANS=DECNET
Then just type the usual command for starting the IMPM... I currently
have a CLIENT/SERVER setup, and what I do, from the 'display station',
is set host to the SERVER (where MCC is installed), and as part of my
process, I submit a batch job that includes the above SET DISPLAY
command, and points to the CLIENT nodename.
Hope this helps...
/Mic
PS. I would venture that Notification Services is a Function Module,
and NO you can't just start up the Notification Services without the
IMPM, but that's a guess... The way MCC changes... *perhaps* it's a
new feature...smile. I'm *only* running V1.2 8^).

| You can't run the Notification Services without the Iconic Map PM. Sorry,
that's just a limitation right now. That limitation may change in a future
release, but not in V1.3. (That's one of the reasons that it's called
"Notifcation Services" and *NOT* "Notification PM", although it looks, smells
and acts like a special-purpose PM, doesn't it? ;^) )
The Notification FM is the FM that is responsible for handling all of the
notification for alarm rule firings and GETEVENTs for the various classes of
objects in given domains. It does some pretty elaborate, sophisticated
creating, coordinating and processing of notification requests, either for the
FCL PM *or* the iconic Map PM.

4262.3 | NO SETHOST | COL01::LUNT | | Thu Dec 17 1992 05:12 | 12 |
| Hello Mic,
Yes it is clear that one can set host to the MCC machine in the
cluster and then do a set display. But that is not distributed in a
cluster environment. I can set host from a cluster or non-cluster
machine and do that. What I would like to know is the future plans to
make MCC distributed, in that only one machine polls, but all machines
running DECmcc can display the alarms, WITHOUT having to set host to
the polling machine. That means, that the different DECmcc's must
somehow be able to talk with one another.

4262.5 | NOTED!, did you say YUTES??? | JUNG::GALVIN | Mic, MCC...while you wait! | Thu Dec 17 1992 16:39 | 11 |
| ... of course Erik *meant* NOTED::EMF_REQ, conference...yes?
8^)
Julie Anne,
Again this is a guess... I think you're talking about the
infamous, " MULTIPLE DIRECTORs" I've heard so much about... as Erik
has suggested, try the EMF_REQ conference it's much better at the
"dream sequence"...smile.

4262.4 | Futures... | TOOK::MINTZ | Erik Mintz | Thu Dec 17 1992 18:41 | 5 |
| Some form of distribution is being planned for a future version of DECmcc,
but the plans are not yet solid. If you have requirements for specific
distribution features, please let us know in the NOTED::EMF_REQ conference.

4262.6 | Yep, NOTED it is | TOOK::MINTZ | Erik Mintz | Thu Dec 17 1992 18:42 | 6 |
| Yep, I meant NOTED, and thorough the magic of notes, that's
what it says now :-)
Thanks,
