4213.1 | exporter/reporter help!!! | JUNG::GALVIN | Mic, from chicaaaaaaago! | Tue Dec 08 1992 14:07 | 20 |
| Hi. I'm still thinking out loud... This is what I'd like to do. I'd
like to do statistical analysis on LANbridge 200s and DECnis 600s over
a period of time. Next I'd like to take the data and, using the
REPORTER, print out text as well as graphic reports showing utilization
over a period of time...
Can I use the EXPORTER, put the stuff in an Rdb database, and then
using the REPORTER, print the data? Is it that easy? Will REPORTER
recognize BRIDGEs as NODE4 entities?
I seem to be running out of time, for the window of opportunity for my
customer. They need to get the data in the next 2 weeks. It's their
prime time for network utilization and this is getting to be critical.
If you have any pointers, ideas, etc. please send mail to Mic
JUNG::GALVIN, or call me. (201) 368-5501. If you read desperation in
my syntax... you're right! Thanks.

4213.2 | EXPORTER or PA  REPORTER??? | JUNG::GALVIN | Mic, from chicaaaaaaago! | Tue Dec 08 1992 18:54 | 21 |
| EXPORTER vs. PA FM
It's nice having a note *all* to yourself... 8^) In regards to
reporting (yup, back on that topic), in the PA Use book there's an
example of how to setup a command procedure that creates .TXT files
containing, for example, the STATISTICS partition for the LINE child
entities of a BRIDGE global entity; this creates an *ok* .TXT file
that I can print to a laser printer. Now, how do I get the graphs?
Which poses a question which I've been asking anyone who will
listen/read!
How do I get reports on BRIDGE line statistics??? Is there a method to
use the PA FM, or is the prescribed method, EXPORTER Rdb database,
REPORTER ? In a previous note I asked about the REPORTER menu NOT
containing BRIDGES as an option...?

| The MCC shuttle is dealing with some organizational issues this week
(as are most software development groups).
I believe Chris answered your other note on reporting.
In general, the reports supplied with the BMS kit are examples,
and are not currently intended to cover all the possible reports
that a manager may desire, or even all presentations of a
particular report.

4213.4 | EXPORTER  REPORT .nes. reports??? | JUNG::GALVIN | Mic, from chicaaaaaaago! | Wed Dec 09 1992 09:35 | 20 |

REPORTER Problems
Here's the story. I used EXPORTER and exported all ports for a DECnis
600, there's about 10 of them. I got to the ports by clicking on the
CSMACD child entity of the DECnis 600. I setup the EXPORTER and gave
it a duration of about a month. This morning I tried to use the
REPORTER to generate a line traffic report. I used the NODE5 menu
option and things looked promising..
Here's the error log I got.
 Element "NODE5_CSMACD_TRAFFIC_RPT" not found in dictionary.
Then the job terminates... Any ideas? I have setup the REPORTER by
the book, as far as setting up CDD & DTR. My CDD$TOP logical is fine,
the database is pointed to the right place... help.

4213.5 | reports on existing menu options??? | JUNG::GALVIN | Mic, from chicaaaaaaago! | Wed Dec 09 1992 13:11 | 10 |
| Erik,
Hi. In reponse to .3, I realize that the REPORTER menu was not
designed to be "all inclusive" for reporting capabilities, but
certainly the menu options that exist area REAL aren't the?
I mean, can't I EXPORT child entities for NODE4, NODE5 and SNMP and
then report on these? Please tell me yes...?

4213.6 | Yes | TOOK::MINTZ | Erik Mintz | Wed Dec 09 1992 15:17 | 6 |
| Yes, of course the things that appear on the menu are supposed to work.
I have forwarded this note to the folks responsible for maintaining
reports, in hopes that they will have some time to respond.

There are no "canned" Reports for Bridges (LANbridge 200 is a BRIDGE).
Class NODE4 .NE. Class BRIDGE
Class NODE5 .NE. Class BRIDGE.
Sorry...
