4199.0. "DECmcc ELM am, etc. over DEMFA" by BRAT::BUKOWSKI () Fri Dec 04 1992 13:26

Will this work? Do I have to use "VIA" if FXA-0 is the only
    Network Interconnect on my system?

    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

Note 788.0 Does DEMFA support RBMS? 4 replies

We are running DECmcc with the ELM AM, and we will soon be turning on the
FDDI controller 400 that we have recently installed. I just seen
something that says the FXA0 doesn't not support RBMS protocol. Is
this true? This could be a big problem for us.

None of the host adapters support RBMS queries. Though of course, with the
appropriate logicals, you be initate queries over the FDDI adapter.

I thought I understood you when I first read your reply, but now I
    am not sure.

My first interpretation was that I could not use products like ELMS and
DECmcc ELM am if the system used a DEMFA as its Network interconnect.

Now I believe you are telling me that I can use ELMS, but I can not
quiry/manage the controller remotely with RBMS protocol.

    Which is correct?

    Mike

The MCC EA routines do not offically support FDDI controllers.
However, if you use the MCC via port qualifier e.g.

mcc>show bridge xxx all char, via port=fxxx

    then it might work.

Chris Brienen (CHRISB::BRIENEN) can give you more information on this.

4199.1Use the VIA PORT qualifier.CHRISB::BRIENENNetwork Management Applications!Fri Dec 04 1992 15:5110
Question was answered offline.

Summary: Use the VIA PORT qualifier.

Mike might actually use two controllers (one ethernet and
one FDDI) for what he's doing, with only the FDDI controller
         running DECnet IV.

VIA PORT won't fix the Bridge Listener or (possibly) Bridge
Spanning Tree Topology and FDDI Ring Mapping.
