I have three systems, two of which where previously running V1.2.0 of
MCCBMS. 

Since upgrading to V1.2.3 all appears fine until I enter the Iconic map
interface and attempt to dive into a NODE entity.  This results in an
error "This entity has no children".  

Any explaination.

One system is at V5.5.2 of vms and the other is a V5.4-2.  I have rebooted the
systems with no change.

I've also noticed that diving into an entity takes conciderably more time!

Any help appreciated.

    Al,

    The way the iconic map requests child entity information has changed
    from V1.2 to V1.2.3.  It used to issue SHOW commands for child entity
    information, it now issues DIRECTORY commands.  The NODE child
    entities probably need to be "re-registered".  This change was made
    to speed up performance.  A Look-Into operation should NOT perform
    worse.  The Iconic Map ran much faster with this change in our test
    environments.

Al,

There are 3 scenarios your site could have with respect to this upgrade.


1. You are using the local MIR for DECmcc registrations.
2. You are using a private namespace for DECmcc registrations, which
   implies your phase V nodes are using a different namespace.

3. Your phaseV nodes are using the same namespace as DECmcc.


In case 3, you  *don't*  want to deregister/register your nodes.  You want
to extract the command procedure from the release notes which will
individually register all the child entities that the target node supports.

In cases 1 and 2, you have the option of executing the command procedure
or simply deregistering, then registering the nodes.  The registration FM
will make all the calls necessary to get this information.


The performance improvements of looking into a node from the iconic map
are orders of magnitude better as compared wih V1.2.0 once you do this.

Thanks very much for the information.

I am using the MIR and did deregister and reregistered the NODE4 entities
and did get it to work, but did not see any performance improvement.

I'll take a closer look at the recommened command procedure and give it a
try.

Ok...I extracted the command procedure and ran it on one of my NODE entities
but when I go into the iconic map and attempt to display the child entities
for this NODE, I get the above error.

The child entities are displayed, however, but with really no improvement in
performance.

Here is the output of the run of the command procedure.....please note
many errors.
