4042.0. "V1.2.3 UPGRADE not working correctly ?" by MFRNW1::SCHUSTER (Karl Schuster @MFR Network Services) Thu Nov 05 1992 11:25

I have installed the V1.2.3 MCCBMS kit from PPINC.
According to the releasenotes I did an UPGRADE ( from V1.2.0 ).

Now all verbs from additional AMs ( BRIDGE, TERMINAL_SERVER, ...)
are no longer known to MCC, although the releasenotes say that installing
AMs is not required if an UPGRADE is done.

Has anybody made the same experience ?

Regards, Karl

4042.1did you re-enroll?TOOK::MCPHERSONpre-retinal integrationThu Nov 05 1992 11:4113
Can you post the exact error text, please? Your description is a little
vague.

Did you re-ENROLL the AMs? (note that this is different from re-INSTALLING).

e.g.
	MCC> enroll mcc_bridge_am
	MCC> enroll mcc_terminal_server_am
	etc,

Then see what happens.

4042.3$ mange/tool rebuild fixed the problem.ANTIK::WESTERBERGStefan Westerberg DS StockholmFri Nov 06 1992 03:4014
Hi, I experienced the same problem. I also saw that all AM where present in
the tool box, so I then tried too rebuild the parser table... and what do you
know, every thing worked like clock work, except from one little thing. If I
click into MCC icon the only global classes shown is those who is supplied with
BMS 1.2.

The installation log don't show any thing abnormal. To just do a re-enroll
didn't help me.

BMS 1.2.3 was installad on top on BMS 1.2.0 with the following AMs

ELM AM, TS AM, NETpod AM and SNA AM

The enrollment of TSAM and ELM works.
But I cannot use any commands with BRIDGE or TERMINAL entities.

mcc> dir bridge * produces the following errors:
%MCC-I-NOPARCMD bridge
%MCC-I-SYSNTAXERR ....
%MCC-W-ENTUNKNOWN ....

The same happens for TERMINAL_SERVER entities.

4042.5Same problem here...KAOFS::BOIVINMoi, j'viens du nord!Fri Nov 06 1992 10:4412
I also did the upgrade from V1.2 to V1.2.3 and "lost" my bridge and
terminal server entities. Fortunately, I selected to NOT purge my files
during the UPGRADE.

I found that a new MCC_DICTIONNARY.BPT had been created (much smaller than
my original one) so I renamed the new dictionnary to *.OLD, restarted MCC, ELM
and TSAM (and re-enrolled). All seems OK now... Should I check/rename anything
else?

Thanks,

Ed
4042.6Problem solved with kit anncounced in 3.TOOK::OCONNORDodge Vegga-matic there in the parking lotMon Nov 09 1992 07:288

    You have solved the problem. We were putting the kit's dictionary in
    place no matter whether we were in upgrade or install modes. The kit
    now posted to PPINC fixes this problem.
