4035.1 | Is this a requirement | TOOK::MINTZ | LKG2-2 near pole X3, cube 6072, dtn 226-5033 | Thu Nov 05 1992 07:20 | 5 |
| We are aware of the importance on Windows NT.
There are no plans that are ready for public discussion.
If you have information about why this is important in the market,
it would be a good topic for NOTED::EMF_REQ

4035.2 | Do you know something we don't? | TOOK::STRUTT | Management - the one word oxymoron | Mon Nov 09 1992 16:16 | 12 |
| I second Eric's request that REQUIREMENTS be entered in NOTED::EMF_REQ.
However, I would be interested in people's OPINIONS entered as replies
to this note - do you feel (or do you *know*) that Windows NT
*management* will be an important force in the industry? How will it
compare to the OSF/DME? Will the DME become irrelevant?
PLEASE don't bother expounding general views on WNT - there are other
notes files for that subject - I'm interested in opinions that relate
specifically to management.

4035.3 | Network Management on Windows-NT is a given | CUJO::HILL | Dan Hill-Net.Mgt.-Customer Resident | Tue Nov 10 1992 00:06 | 11 |
| When you consider the sheer number of PCs alone that will be moving to
WNT, not to mention other platforms, it becomes clearly evident that
network management software on WNT is a must. If we don't anticipate
this market, we will be left far behind.
I asked about WNT and DECmcc in this notes file many months ago in
response to a customer request following an NT demo. Someone with
budgeting responsibility should seriously consider funding an NT
porting effort for DECmcc.

4035.4 | Incumbent's are very difficult to dislodge... | DAGWST::SITZ | | Fri Mar 12 1993 17:24 | 23 |
| re .-2
Colin,
You asked for opinions on this subject...
George Bush being an exception, incumbents are very difficult to dislodge.
Weekly I see customers buying Cabeltron hubs, even though they acknowledge that
the DEChub90 has features they would like; the reason is that they already have
an investment in Cabletron product.
WNT will be a serious player in the "operating system" market. Alpha AXP will
run WNT.
Opinion: We need product with the DECmcc (aka PolycenterMumble) look and
feel on the market very soon. Even is it is only a sub-set of the functions we
see on other platforms today, we need to play on this field and I believe it
would be best to start early.
Regards,
Glen R.
