4018.0. "Phase IV events relayed to Phase V ?" by WELLIN::MCCALLUM () Tue Nov 03 1992 13:02

    I am trying to receive event from a phase iv router on a phase v end
    system with mcc 1.2. The end system is ultrix.

    I have :

    set the router to send it events to the Phase V end system
    Enabled the event dispatcher
    enabled the relay
    (I can now see events in the session manager window)
    created and enabled an outbound stream to mcc_evl_sink on the phase v
    system (the same one as MCC)
    enabled dna5_evl sink in mcc

    but my rules on Phase IV nodes and a getevent on a node4 never
    completes.

    Have I missed something ? Any hints what could be wrong ?

    Thanks,

    Dave McCallum.

4018.1not supported yetTOOK::PURRETTATue Nov 03 1992 14:128
    There is currently no support in the phaseV sink to decode
    phaseIV relayed events. To get your phaseIV events to MCC you
    must run on a phaseIV node and use the phaseIV event sink.
    Both the phaseIV and PhaseV sinks can run together on a phaseIV
    node, so if you need to field events from a mixed DECnet environment
    I'd suggest moving your director over on to one of the phaseIV nodes.

    So I take it the note 2516.5 is wrong.

    We now have a significant problem - we are running on Ultrix and
    are setting up a multiple director system ( one central, seven slaves )
    and we were hoping to use DNS to distribute the mcc MIR ,
    but this requires Phase V, no DNS on Phase IV Ultrix.

    Also on ULtrix can you run Dna5_evl and dna4_evl ? There is
    either the Phase V or the Phase IV product.

Yes. 2516.1 states the restriction.

I haven't tried this, but in theory it may be a workaround to your problem.
Run MCC and the DNA4 EVL on one of the phaseIV nodes. Have the phaseIV
events sent to this node. Now, to get the events over to your main MCC
station (and Notification I presume) you may try something like is described
in note 3700. You'd have an Alarm rule listening for the particular event(s)
you're interested in, which a procedure (like note 3700's, but Ultrix based)
would use the Event Collector Send mechanism to send it over to the
EVC sink at the other end and your notification window.
Not pretty, but it could get you out of this problem.

Both the phase4 and phase5 EVLs can run simultaneously on a phase4 system.
The phase4 EVL cannot run on a phase5 system though.
This applies to both VMS and Ultrix.

4018.4P4Relayed events Supported as of T1.3.1HAYNES::PURRETTAMon Feb 01 1993 14:233
    The MCC DNA5 EVL now supports Phase IV Relayed events
    as of fieldtest version T1.3.1.
