4002.0. "Importing ELMS data into EMS2.2" by KAZAN::HOPE (dtn: 858-1452, Paris, France) Fri Oct 30 1992 10:16

    One of our customers has just installed DECmcc EMS 2.2 and has tried to
    use the supplied programs to migrate their ELMS bridge database.

    They are also using dns.

    They have a problem as the bridge entites are correctly created but all
    their remarks from ELMS are mixed up. They appear to be random.

    Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix or have they done
    something wrong?

    Regards
    Steve

    Can you be more specific in what is happening? I don't understand what
    "remarks" you are referring to.
4002.22nd try, + what versions?KAZAN::HOPEdtn: 858-1452, Paris, FranceTue Nov 03 1992 08:1217
    OK I'm sorry
    let me try to explain

    The ELMS Data has a comment field in which the customer has entered the
    physical location of the bridge eg "Building1 2nd floor"

    After converting to DNS and 'autoconfigging' these comments are
    randomly mixed up so the comment (the bridges' attribute in DECmcc) is
    not the original and the only way to correct this seems to go through
    the bridges one by one and enter the correct comment.

    I hope this is clearer. I should add that I did not install DECmcc and
    although I know they're using the 1.2 director I'm unsure of other
    versions. If someone could give me the current images they should be
    using that would be a good start.

    Thanks
4002.3All the details..KAZAN::HOPEdtn: 858-1452, Paris, FranceMon Nov 16 1992 04:3544
    So I went back and checked everything and it still doesn't work.

    Here are the software versions:

    VMS  5.5-1
    dns  1.1
    ELMS 1.1
    DECmcc Director 1.2
    	bridge AM   1.2.1
    	termserver  1.0.0
    	FDDI AM     1.2.0
    	FDDI FM     1.2.0

    And the BIG shock MCC_ELMS_CONVERT_MAIN.EXE version T1.2.4 linked
    14 July

    All these were installed from the CDs dated Sept 92.

    Here's and example of the problem:

A list of the DEC Extended LAN Management Software V1.1 database gives

Typ DEBET - LAN Bridge 150
Line 1 Address:			08-00-2B-13-C3-38
Line 2 Address:			08-00-2B-53-C3-38
Nam				B08
Description:   			LAVC C09 BAT A2 3eme

    and the result of the convert gives:

$  typ mcc_load_elms_data.com
! DECmcc generated this command file on 12-NOV-1992 10:01:24.61
! to load DECelms database information into DECmcc
!
!
REGISTER BRIDGE .bridge.B08                       ADDRESS=08-00-2B-13-C3-38
SET BRIDGE .bridge.B08           REMARKS="A8 S/S COAX A8                  "
!

    The Remark is taken from another bridge in the ELMS database.

    I've got a copy of the ELMS databases if anyone is prepared to look
    into it.
