3972.0. "Replacing Wall clocks with DECmcc." by BEAGLE::WLODEK (Network pathologist.) Tue Oct 27 1992 09:00

What's the time ?? ( in NYC, London, Tokyo or Sydney ?)

    It is a serious question.

New network management centre in SAT will need wall clocks in several
    different tumescence.

Instead of several clocks or a clock plant system one can imagine a
display or series of displays with computer driver clocks.

Added value would be accuracy between the clocks and added info
like public holidays. One could also change the colour of the clock
depending on prime time, public holidays, scheduled maintenance
    etc.

Does anybody know of such products, assets or think it would be worth
    developing it ?

One could also take this request as a product requirement for MCC.
At a small additional cost one could add small wall clocks over
    different locations on iconic map.

A frequent problem in managing large networks is to keep operators
informed on scheduled work ( additions, removals, maintenance).
Network manager could post messages to these clock and requesting
activation at certain scheduled time, which would turn the clock red
or blink it and thus inform the operator that there is a message about
some work done at this particular location.

Err, what's wrong with DTSS (which keeps you synchronized with UTC).
A suitable application could take the current UTC time and display the
time in Sydney, or anywhere else you were interested in, eh?
