3892.0. "Accessing remote concentrators?" by MADBAS::JHANNAH (Jim Hannah, Telecoms & Nets, AYO) Mon Oct 12 1992 08:38

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with a problem I have. The
configuration is as shown below. There is a dual ring with concentrators and
VAX 6000's connected to the concentrators (I've only shown one of the 6000's).
The 6000's also have a connection to the main ethernet. The system I'm running
DECmcc on doesn't have a direct connection to the dual ring containing the
concentrators, but is connected to the ethernet.

             Concentrator Concentrator

                 |Connection |
         --------------------------------------------- Ethernet

The question is, how do I get to the concentrators via DECmcc? Can I go through
the VAX 6000 to get to them? Is it possible to use the OBM ports on the
concentrators via DECmcc?

Thanks for any help.

Jim.

3892.1Need a 10/100 bridgeVCSESU::WADEBill Wade, VAXc Systems & Support EngMon Oct 12 1992 12:121
You need a DECbridge (10/100) between the Ethernet and the FDDI.

Q1. Can the VAX 6000 route IP?

Q2. Do the Concentrators have SNMP Agents loaded?

If "YES" and "YES", then use SNMP to manage them.

If the answer to both questions is "NO", then you need a bridge.

If the Concentrators are SNMP manageable, Routing may be your answer...
