I have question about licenses for DECmcc EMS. If I've previosly installed DECmcc EMS, and registered the DECmcc-EMS license, and I now want to upgrade the BMS part of EMS, with the ELM AM in addition, do I need any additional licenses? This is a demo machine and I want to upgrade DECmcc to 1.2 without having to reinstall the whole EMS. Is the license checking for ELM AM satisfied with having a EMS license instead og ELM-FM and ELM-AM licenses? Bjrn Olav Haugom

3723.2 | Why is BMS license needed if you have EMS license | OSLACT::BJORN | Woops, now I have to learn changing diper's | Mon Oct 05 1992 08:03 | 15 |
Here's another one. Believe it or not. When my customer received his Sept. CD's he found DECmcc BMS V1.2 a.o., but he didn't find an updated DECmcc EMS. He figured he wanted to upgrade the BMS part of EMS, so he installed it, using VMSINSTAL. He very quickly found out that he needed a BMS license for the product. He answered yes, believing that EMS license covered for the product. BUT, NO, the IVP failed, telling him he didn't have the license. Is this how this should work? I mean, is the DECmcc BMS product different between the two packaging methods? The same question applies to DECmcc TSAM and DECmcc ELM, and DECmcc TCP/IP DA. Bjrn Olav Haugom

The stand-alone TSAM kit which comes from SSB (not part of EMS) does not support the EMS license. At the time we went to SSB, the EMS people could not give me enough information so that the TSAM kit could anticipate the future unreleased EMS kit. Your customer will have to wait for the EMS kit for a TSAM which recognizes an EMS license. -Dave

The stand-alone ELM kits do not support the EMS license either. The ELM kits went to SSB before the EMS license release date was determined. Separate ELM modules were built for the EMS kit to recognize the EMS license. You need the following licenses to install/use the stand-alone the ELM kits: ELM AM requires DECMCC-ELM-AM-V ELM FM requires either DECMCC-ELM-FM-V or DECMCC-BMS. |
