| And another thing...
I'll add that my patform is BMS V1.2, with TSAM V1.0, and the
latest toolkit. I've got a VAXserver 3900, and a "lovely" X Windows
Terminal running DECwindow/EWS. Thanks.

3582.2 | CMA == DECthreads | TOOK::MINTZ | Erik Mintz, dtn 226-5033 | Tue Aug 18 1992 10:39 | 19 |
| > Hi there. Has anyone upgraded their VMS platform to T5.5-2E7? Well,
Are you sure you want to be running a field test version of VMS
at your customer site? We have seen some bugs one or more VMS FT versions
that have disrupted the operation of DECmcc.
> What does the CMA$RTL.EXE image actually do, relative to MCC? It was
CMA$RTL is the shareable image for DECthreads, the threading package
used throughout DECmcc. The CLT::CMA notes conference discusses this package.
By the way, did you install DECmcc before or after the upgrade?
Now that some versions of VMS are shipping (an older) CMA library,
you may have uncovered an incompatability between what is shipped on
VMS and what DECmcc expects.

3582.3 | Known problems | RACER::dave | Ahh, but fortunately, I have the key to escape reality. | Tue Aug 18 1992 11:32 | 15 |
| The CMA files in the 5.5-2 kit had known bugs in them,
the VMS FT notes files went over that.
Also, the VMS 5.5-2 upgrade trashes the newer CMA images provided by
MCC and replaces them with much older, buggy versions. This had
been QARed against VMS and the reply was "We are VMS, and we can replace
any image on the system we want to",
So, you need to get the correct CMS images from the MCC kit, and put them
back on the system. This is covered in the release notes, but you didnt read
them, i'll bet....
The fact the the message about installed images appears at all is because VMS
incorrectly linked the images when they built them. That has been fixed, but it
still is an old, broken CMA.

3582.4 | beat me...oh, yeah! | CAADC::GALVIN | Mic Galvin, MCI Team | Tue Aug 18 1992 14:11 | 22 |
| Erik,
Hi there. Thanks for the quick reply! Your's and Dave's (I'll
respond to his next..smile) were quite timely.
As for the recommendation of not installing FT software on a Customer
site, I fully concur! However, first of all, I didn't realize that
T5.5-2E7 was NOT V5.5-2! I skimmed the thousands of pages of release
notes, from V5.5, to V5.5-1, V5.5-2, err, T5.5-2E7 that is... Sorry I
missed the CMA stuff... I've been pretty religious with my MCC reading
though...smile. Secondly, we (ie: DEC) technically OWN the prototype
DECmcc station I've built, so I'm not jeopardizing the stock at
all...smile.
The last question you asked was whether I installed MCC before or after
VMS. I installed BMS V1.2 2 weeks ago (am I'm sure it V1.2...smile!) I
think I'll explore RACER::DAVE's idea about replacing the CMA$RTL.EXE
files... and now to Dave. Thank you Erik... I'm still waiting for the
performance stats on MCC...only kidding! I've already lasso'd Dave for
that one... /Mic

3582.5 | slap me, hit me, hurt me... | CAADC::GALVIN | Mic Galvin, MCI Team | Tue Aug 18 1992 14:16 | 16 |
| Dave,
I get you're just mad at me because I haven't returned your
calls...smile. I read *most* of the release notes...! As I told Erik
in a previous reply, I upgraded from VMS V5.4-3 to V5.5, to V5.5-1,
T5.5-2E7...give a guy a break!!! I'm having difficulty getting through
Steven King's THE STAND (half way done...though), and you expect me to
read 5000 pages of release notes, between DECmcc and VMS!!!! Then read
the MCC Notes Conference, MCC-TOOLS Notes Conference, VMSNOTES,
VMS_FIELD_TESTS, whew....need a rest after that razzin'!
Anway, I'm at home, but on my way to the customer site and I'll try
to call you when I get there. I really appreciate you guys taking so
much time to hold my hand...smile. But as I told Erik, I'm still
waiting for the performance stats....gotcha!
