3581.0. "Make parse rebuild optional?" by CGOOA::BARNABE (Guy Barnabe (DIS) Regina/Canada) Tue Aug 18 1992 03:23

Can the parse "processing" be optional, if one is going to install
several AMs/FMs in a row, in order to cut down on install time?

3581.1YEAH, mon!FRSOLD::ORCHIS::SYSTEMInformation, that's all I need...Tue Aug 18 1992 08:4613
Hi all,

I'd support that one. Doing five parse table updates in a row is @!!$&!
Also, I'd suggest that rebuilding the parse upon exiting the DAP should be
optional through use of a inquiry ("Do you want to update the parse table now
[Y/N]? ").

Keep up the good work

Actually, there is a command (undocumented at this time) that allows you
to exit DAP without building the parse tables. The command is:

  DAP> EXIT NOPARSETABLES

(You can abbreviate NOPARSETABLES to three characters).

It was never documented because we were hesitant to make official any
method that allowed the parse tables to get out of synch with the main
dictionary file. So, now that the word is out, please be careful to
rebuild the parse tables if this command is used.

As far as the kit installs are concerned, it is up to them to determine
if they want to use this command and offer the installer the option to
  defer parse table building.

                                                                     - Jerry
